The "experiments" are more observations, of the redshifted light from
distant galaxies, of the cosmic microwave background radiation, of the
population distribution of galaxies at varying distances (and therefore
at varying times into the past), of the stellar populations of galaxies
at varying distances, and so on and so on. There's a lot of
quantitative evidence which all hangs together to support the idea that
the universe is expanding and has been expanding for at least the last
few billion years.

"Faith" has nothing to do with it.
