October 1998, are now likely to reach their originally predicted target
of 200, 000 subscribers by the end of the festive season. The
manufacturer of the Pace DigiBoxes recently announced that they had
produced around 200, 000 boxes in November this year, the DigiBox is now
being produced 24, 000 per week to keep up with heavy demand.
* The Dutch international satellite service which is currently
broadcasting in the clear on Hotbird 1 at 13 degrees east (11.283 Ghz
v), are to end their PAL clear transmissions on the 1st July 1999. The
channel informs us that they are to continue with their MPEG-2 clear
service on the Astra 1G satellite at 19.2 degrees east.
* The Cartoon Network and The Cartoon Network 2 which recently joined
Astra 2a at 28.2 degrees east, are now to become a pay-TV service as
part of the Sky Digital line-up. These two channels can be found on
channels 601 and 602, Cartoon Network 2 is a time-shifted version of
this childrens channel, which broadcasts free-to-air on Astra 1C.
* It has been confirmed that the UK Government have proscribed Eros TV.
The proscription order was officially put into place on the 9th
December, although the industry wasn't informed of this until earlier
this week. The proscription order will make it illegal to sell, promote
or renew subscriptions to the channel within the UK from the 30th
December 1998 (provided by SatZone).
* Merlin Network One are to produce a special broadcast on the history
of Radio Luxembourg, this will air as part of the special Christmas day
line-up and will focus on the English language service. You can listen
in on the 25th between 1300 and 1500 Central European Time. This radio
station can be heard on short wave (9915 KHz) and on the Astra 1D
satellite (10.847 GHz V, 7.38/7.56 MHz), a repeat of the programme is
expected.

This target has already been reached, the target is more like 400,000
