I am in exactly the same situation as you, I don't have all the answers to
your questions. I will tell you what I have gathered so far . I'll assume
that you are in the uk and pointing an anologue reciever + D2MAC decoder at
1degree west. (Thor 1, 2 and 3.)
Viasat (broadcaters of TV1000) seem to have moved their digital
transmissions onto the Sirius satelite located at 5 degrees East. The
encryption system used is called Viaccess and has been cracked. Before you
rush out and buy a digital reciever be aware that the required dish size to
receive this signal from the UK is 150cm or greater :-(( which was a
limiting factor for me.
Canal + are broadcasting in digital on 1 degree west (Thor satelites). The
signal can be recieved in the UK with a 80/90cm dish and universal LNB. Your
dish and LNB are probably already suitable and correctly aligned. The
encryption used is called Conax. This is where the trail runs cold for me.
Some say that Conax has been cracked, but only by professional hackers,
others are not so sure. There have been many spoof postings claiming to be
conax Hex files, none of which have worked. All I can do now is watch for
any further developments regarding the cracking of Conax. Be very carefull
of potential fraudsters offering the sale of conax cards, and finally, let
me know if you do come accross a genuine hack.

I thought that they were both under Conax so that is good news. I personally
preferred the Viasat programming but then that was largely due to the codes
for the Canal + movie channel changing almost as soon as I got them! I am
from Ireland and I don't forsee a problem with mounting a 150cm dish, apart
from having to buy one.
However, what I would be worried about is forking out for a digital
receiver, cam and card only to find out that the whole lot goes off shortly
afterwards! This kind of situation happened to me before.
My D2Mac was always reliable and I got great service from it. It was worth
every penny. I suppose if you want to watch for "free" then you take your
chance. It would be nice however to get all my channels up and running
again.
Has anyone out there got any information that would help Phil, Jenny and I
to get a solution? I am sure that I speak for us all when I say that any and
all replies would be appreciated. Particularly regarding the software on the
cards, and basically anything you think we should know before committing
ourselves to handing over the cash. How reliable is the Viasat hack? Does
it require updates etc?
Please help if you can, I'm beginning to have withdrawal symptomns!!
Does anyone know of any other hack sites that may be of use?
Phil and Jenny, I will certainly let you know if I find anything but this
site was a dry well until you replied! Thanks!

You are right to weary (as I am) about forking out for a new digital
receiver etc. At the present time there are several updated encryption
systems being introduced.
I think that Viacess is being replaced by Viaccess II and I don't know if a
hack is or will be available. A good source of information can be found at
http://www.satellites.co.uk in the discussion forums.
Anyway, if you did, do you have Viasat working or do you know anyone who
has?
The Dom wrote in elsewhere with some very good questions, and if we can get
answers to them, then with a bit of luck, we could be viewing digital soon!
I live in hope, Michael.
