Me and my 360 continue to hang in there. The intermittent
RX light has disappeared. Replacing the receive LNB, the cabling, and the
cable connectors made no difference at all.
Calling SB got me moved to another subcluster, (just as slow as the last
one) and the quick offer to sell me a refurbed 360 for $100.00. I declined
the offer of a refurb 360.
So I did all of the above, no results, RX light continued to flicker, then
go out, no internet. I could shut everything off,
come back in an hour, and it would work for another 20 minutes. On my last
call to SB (another 15 minute wait on hold, elevator music) I said that if I
couldn't resolve the problem, I was going to Wildblue, (NO local SB dealers
anymore) or back to dial-up. The next morning, powered up the 360 and
computer, everything worked perfectly, and has ever since, (been almost a
month now) solid as a rock. And just as slow.
Newsgroups have been frustrating. Click on, say,
rec.arts.tv, you get....searching for server..... connected....
25 messages not downloaded.......then.....nothing.
I have to move to another NG, then come back, sometime several times, before
the newest messages will download.
Posting to a newsgroup has become sporadic, at best. Sending a post sends
it to a dark hole, where it is gone forever, never to show up. Sometimes
multiple attempts to post over a two day period, never show up. We will see
if this post makes it.
Anyway, that's my rant. When it works, I can honestly say that SB gives me
connection to the internet, without tying up my phone line. High speed?
Nope, not even close. Reliable? Sometimes.
Good Customer Service? Mediocre, if you are willing to wait on hold for 15
to 30 minutes.
Worth $50 a month? Just barely.

That's it!

I wrote a response (below) this morning. It hasn't shown up yet, so here's
a copy...

Sorry. These "delays" have been going on for 6 months now.

Only six months? Delays have been going on for years, to me. I just posted
the URL of the company that is supposed to be providing the service to
Starband. It's above. You can check in there to see if the problem is on
their side

Anyway, there is only a 50-50 chance that this post will go through, and I
will have to copy and paste my reply (which is what I had to do to get my
original post posted.) A delay would be better than the totally dropped
messages, which sometimes appear to the reader, but not to me, so I repost,
only to find out that people have read my post, I just don't get a return.

This is not what ARPA had in mind for "guaranteed delivery,"
