as anybody successfully updated the firmware at the Whistler Galileo 100GPS
device?
It seems to have same hardware as the Holux GM101 and Alan Map 500.
Alan is quite active in providing new improved firmware and I'm very keen on
getting this firmware on my Whistler device (3x number of waypoints,
save/load of tracks/waypoints to compact flash card, new "goto" menu item).
More details to Alan firmware can be found at: http://www.hobbyradio.de/GPS
(Unfortunately in German - so you have to use some translation (google,
babelfish).
I'm interested in success or failure stories!

ALAN MAP 500 FIRMWARE IS NOT COMPATIBLE TO WHISTLER GALILEO GPS100!!
I learnt it on the hard way. By updating my Whistler Galileo GPS 100 device
with Alan firmware, it is not any more booting/starting.
Luckily the firmware boot loader is still functional. I guess by flashing
back the original firmware, the device can be reactivated.
So here a warning again to all Whistler Galileo GPS 100 users: Alan firmware
is NOT compatible to Whistler Galileo GPS 100!!
Don't try to update!
Here how I made my attempt:
1. Perform a factory reset
2. Remove compact flash card
3. Start the uploading of new firmware (press simulatanously left and right
button)
Outcome: Pressing start button. Only the backlight went on for a second.
That's all. No script visible at screen no button does react.

Timo

Whistler support has been great. Not more than 60 Minutes after opening
their office, they provided me with a new firmware for my Whistler Galielo
GPS 100!
Now my GPS device is functional again.
