Nuvi series

The Nuvi series appears to have a non-replaceable (by the owner)
Lithium Ion battery. How long will they last? In laptops and cell
phones, somewhat under 3 years. What does the Nuvi owner do when the
battery craps out?

Garmin may be changing their policy over this at last. The latest
Nuvis, the 8** series apparently have replaceable batteries

My C320's battery reached a stage where it would not charge any more.
Garmin could/would not repair it and offered me a good deal on a new
C550. They did not allow me to buy a Nuvi at a discount rate though!
(I live in South Africa)

series lasts over three years. Most people seem to think that by then the
newer offerings will have better features and they'll want a new one
rather than trying to make their old one work longer.

This is biassed, of course: the people on that forum are serious enough
about GPS to post to a forum about it. Naturally they're more like to be
into getting a new one.

Lithium Ion batteries SUCK big time. The only good thing about them
is that they pack a lot of power in a small space. The fact that
they are not replaceable in a Nuvi eliminates the Nuvi series for me.
