Moving saved locations from one Garmin Nuvi 1490 LMT to another 1490 LMT

I have 2 1490 LMTs. The battery in the one that I have been using for
years no longer holds a charge after being removed from the vehicle.
I got another 1490 and would like to move all my saved locations from
the old one to the new one. Can it be done and if so, how?

I forgot to mention that I do not want to change the battery in the old
one. No matter how simple it would be with a kit.

IIRC, when the device is connected by USB, it acts like a thumb drive,
so you can copy the relevant files to your computer, then plug in the
new one and copy them to it (but save the existing ones first!).

I don't recall the details (like file names), but other posters in this
NG will probably help - or try Google.

Bill-

Regarding your saved locations, connect the Garmin's USB cable to your
computer as Gene suggested. Browse its contents and look for a folder
named GPX. I think that is where your saved locations are stored. Also
as Gene suggested, be sure to back anything up before you replace it.

I changed the battery in my older Nuvi 350, and it was not as easy as I
expected. The battery in my 1490T is starting to fade, and it would be
well worth replacing. I really like the 1490! I suggest you supply
battery data to whoever gets your old one. I got my battery kit from
batteryship.com. For the 1490LMT:

There's some complications involving the .gpx files that make it not
quite as simple as a straight copy. Essentially, the .gpx files are not
the saved locations databases, but import/export extracts that are
created or imported from at boot time.
http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=10211 has a discussion of
this.

If you can keep the old one alive with a charger you can connect both
to your computer and use Garmin Express to move everything.

To all that replied. Thank you. I got side tracked yesterday and didn't
check for your replies.
As soon as I try some of the suggestions, I'll come back and tell you my
results.

It still works in a car, just not outside the car.
Sorry, I give my old ones away to family and friends who don't have one,
or have an old one. It has free map updates.

The .gpx file was the answer.
The name of the file containing my favorites is called 'Current'.
I connected the 1490 to the computer, and opened the "Current" file.
I copied the whole file.
Unplugged the old Garmin and plugged the new one.
I went to the GPX Current file and deleted what was there and then
pasted the data from the old to the new.
Checked it in the Garmin and it had worked.
Thanks

Thanks for letting us know - and since I didn't know *what* needed to be
done, double thanks :-)
