I recently purchased the 765T and want to create routes on my PC. I am very
confused about mapsource, it seems it is for updating to the most recent map
which I already have, what do you guys use for this purpose?

Mapsource is very good for entering and maintaining waypoints and
downloading them to tthe GPS or uploading them to a PC as a backup.
Mapsouce can also be used for routes or downloading maps.
