More-or-less same result on three PCs (one with built-in serial port,
two using USB-to-serial connection). In all cases, the DNRGarmin
software returns a communication error, although its not the same
error for serial or USB-to-serial. With built-in serial port, the
error message is "Error 8012 - The device is not open".
With the computers using USB-to-serial connection, the error message
gives runtime error 440 (automation error) and runtime error 8020
error reading comm port. The the DNRGarmin quits running entirely.
A second method I use to communicate to the device is using the
geocaching.com website, with a installable dll from Garmin (IIRC) to
transfer GPX files from the website to the Garmn with a single mouse
click. This method continues to work properly - I just transferred a
file.
Am I just recalling incorrectly that DNRGarmin worked when this Garmin
DLL is installed, or are they incompatible? I would really like to be
able to use the DNRGarmin software since it's a free solution for
downloading tracks and creating shapefiles from the Garmin GPS data.
If there's an alternative free solution for creating shapefiles from
the Garmin data, I am open to suggestions.
Thanks.
