After getting a new Garmin for my wife, we were going to give the old
one (Nuvi 265W) to a friend.
We had a particular friend in mind but she is not too technically adept.
I decided that I would at least set her 'Home' address in New Jersey.
I'm doing this at home in New York.
When I got to the keyboard display, I noticed that the keyboard was a
little wider than the screen and the keys at the left and right of the
alphanumeric keys were halfway cut off.
When I pressed a letter, the key to the left of it would light up and
that was the letter that would show up in the entry box rather than the
one I pressed.. In other words,if I pressed the 'N' key, the 'B' key
would light up and the 'B' would be entered in the entry box rather than
the 'N'. Even when I press the 'Forward' arrow button, the 'Back' arrow
button would light up and the cursor would move backwards. Clicking on
the 'Back' arrow button did nothing. The left side of the keyboard seems
to be working somewhat correctly.
When I mentioned this to my wife, she says "Yes, I was having a problem
with the keyboard". :-)

Any clues or solutions?

Have you tried calibrating the screen? The instructions for this should be in
the user manual.

With my unit (Nuvi 765) the procedure is:

1. Turn off the nᅵvi.
2. Hold your finger in the middle of the screen.
3. Slide the power button to the left then immediately to the right
(lock). Continue to hold your finger on the screen for about one
minute until the calibration screen appears.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Slide the power button to the middle to unlock the screen.

Thanks for replying.
That didn't work, but I did find the troubleshooting page under the
Tools button (I did have to press the screen to the right of the tools
icon to get the tools page and the troubleshooting link).
Under "Touch Screen Not Responding" it said,
"If the touch screen is not responding properly, calibrate the touch
screen. Turn the Nuvi off. Then slide and hold the Power key to the left
for about 30 seconds. Follow the on-screen instructions".
I did this numerous times, but never got the calibrate instructions
page. All it did was to start the Nuvi up normally with no corrections.:-(

Are you sure you're looking in the right place for the instructions? You
should get a series of screens with cross-wires and a dot to press.

The *Owners Manual* (available online if you haven't got one) for the Nuvi
205 series gives the following instructions:

1. Turn off the nᅵvi.
2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the nᅵvi.
3. Release the power key when the Garmin screen appears.
4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds
until a white screen with ᅵPress dotᅵ appears.

OK, that worked. But nowhere did the calibration instructions in my Nuvi
say to press the screen anywhere while turning it on. You would think
that they would have the model specific instructions there.
Thanks. I managed to set the friend's Home address.
Every time she came up to visit us she would make a wrong turn
somewhere, either coming up or going home. Now she can blame it on the
GPS. :-)
