How much memory in a ScanDisk can I add to my nuvi 750. I want to buy map
updates. The Garmin site warns that if there is not enough memory in the
unit only partial maps updates will be loaded.
Thanks in advance for you help and support.

I *think* you're asking "how big a memory card should I buy for my
Nvi?"
For most Nvi models, Garmin supports cards up to 4GB. (That's specific
wording that means if 8GB doesn't work, they won't help you make it
work, not that it necessarily WON'T work.) Since 4 GB cards don't cost
a whole lot more than 2GB cards or 1GB cards, you might want to start
with a 4GB one. You can always fill up extra space with MP3s...

I think the entire subject of SDcards has been discussed in previous
threads.
First - anything about 2GB must be SDHC....
Then... you should be ok up to 16GB as per the Garmin FAQ.
Here's a FAQ from the Garmin website support area -
---
Question: What is the largest Secure Digital (SD) card recommended for my
nuvi or zumo?
Answer:
As long as your nuvi or zumo has the latest version of software, it will be
compatible with all SD and SDHC datacards. While SDHC datacards are
available in a variety of storage sizes and speeds, we only recommend using
a maximum of 16GB SDHC cards.
To download the latest unit software visit our website:
www.garmin.com/webupdater
Note: Depending on the model of your nuvi or zumo it may use either a full
size SD card or a microSD card. If you are not sure which your nuvi
requires, please refer to its documentation.

Congratulations. Your looking stuff up is more current than my memory.

Actually, there are non HC cards at 4GB. This might be useful to owners
of older gear...
Compare these two:

Or read the first paragraph of this:

The first pair just came from my first Google hit; no endorsement or
lack of endorsement of the store is intended.

yeah - there are -
but they are incompatible with everything else in the current tech world,
which is why I would never mention they even existed - or probably ever see
them for sale -
I have a couple lying around, IIRC, and they worked OK for me in
standard devices (cameras, reader).
OTOH, I have switched to SDHC even at 4 GB, so I guess we're really not
far from agreement :-)

Leigh-
Do they mean memory like a ScanDisk, or memory like RAM?
Fred

Probably memory like a SanDisk SD or SDHC card...
Fred,
I beleive that they are refering to the total memory in the unit both RAM
and a ScanDisk.
Leigh
Leigh - Since it was YOUR thread -
I'm not sure where on the Garmin website you found the text about "enough
memory".
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1456&pvID=30132#requirementsTab
but they are really talking about "storage" via the internal flash drive or
external SDcard.
This discusssion is about the "flash memory" capacity -
which is the virtual disk drive,
either internal to the GPS, or by adding a SDcard....
This is different than "ram"
which is the real computer memory....and can't be added to.
SO - it's basically the virtual disk drive storage on the device.... ie -
flash memory.
Just like with a digital camera -
Problem with changing semantics - storage vs memory....
Used to be easy.... memory => chips, and storage => disk
now BOTH are on chips or external cards....
Here's another thread from the Garmin Support FAQ
that I just stumbled across looking for something else.
It would appear that the 4GB limit
is related to how many mapping segments are used,
along with - in this FAQ -
maybe the capability of the Outdoor/Fitmess devices....
SO - not sure how all the variables dictate
what will actually happen with say a 16GB card,
and where the 4GB mapping limit actually comes into play.

What the -something- is a ScanDisk???
I know how to scan a disk, but there is no place for a disk in my 750!
The OP meant a SDcard - like sold by "Sandisk" -
As I already mentiononed in this subtrhead on Jan 4th, 20:22 PST.
