I guess ((($1 BILLION DOLLARS))) to CBC/SRC a year ($500,000 for CBC,
$500,000 for SRC) just isn't enough for the "poor" Canadian public
broadcasters. They wanted in on the greedfest, but only CTV and Global
won out.

I can't wait to get the CTV and Global reaction.
I hope the courts overturn it like they did with the decision to allow
a fourth cellphone provider. F---- the CRTC, they are whores. If
Canadian channels want money, they can produce programs people
actually want to SEE.
And why, pray tell, was the "decision to allow a fourth cellphone
provider" up to the courts to begin with? Shouldn't that be up to the
MARKET? Anyone should be able to start up a company, buy spectrum, and
go into business. We should be encouraging competition, not monopolies
and small oligopolies that end up charging exorbitant rates and
nickel-and-diming consumers to death.
The cell service market is badly distorted on both sides of the border.
Locked handsets, disabled handset features, high data rates, severely
crippled data plans, VOIP blocking, hidden fees, ludicrous texting fees,
and poor infrastructure (resulting in spotty coverage) are all
consequences of one single root problem: insufficient competition in the
marketplace.
The fix for that isn't more regulation (businesses always find ways to
bend the rules to their advantage), it is more competition, which tends
to mean less regulation.
Get with the program, people!
