Hello.

My name is Tiffanie and my fiance and I are moving onto our RV full-time
starting in February 2004. We are going to be staying in the Seattle
area for the first little while. I am having trouble finding locations
where we can find RV hookups without having to pay for an RV Park space.
Is there anywhere we can go for hookups without having to stay at an
RV park? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I'm trying to find information on where it is legal and illegal
to park in the Seattle and surrounding areas. If anyone has this
information as well I would be very greatful.

Thanks!

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

You want a place to park your RV with sewer, water and electric
hookups...for free?

Did you also want cable, telephone and maid service?

From your few posts, it appears you are either a clone of
*ass or clueless. You need to read a few days of posts to
these newsgroups and then post in a less confrontational
manner. Otherwise you will get plonked and receive no help.

What you are asking may well be possible in some localities,
I don't know. However, presuming you can find a "free"
source of potable water, how do you plan on disposing of the
used water? You may find a place to dump your tanks for
"free" and if you do, you also may find the "free" potable
water.

Not trying to be nasty, just not sure of your intentions.

Thank you HDinNY and Norbet Hall for your helpful posts. My first post
was very much so just asking a question and I got a not so nice response
so I got defensive. I apologize for that. My question may have
appeared as a stupid one being I am new to this and am 'clueless' in
some areas, that's why I joined to group to read up and be able to ask
questions if need be. I have been reading the posts for about a week
now as we're getting ready to start our move.

Thanks Norbert for the water areas. I will check with the gas stations
around the area to see about water from them and dump areas. I know
that in Montana (where i'm originally from) that gas stations do offer
this. I just wasn't sure here. Thank you for the tips. We actually
have a place to park at this time, but have looked into the Wal-Mart
parking lots as well.

Thanks to both for your help.

You did not ask that question. Had you asked about where to get fresh water
for the storage tank the answer would have been:

Most service/fuel stations.
Flying J's
Most rest stops.
Any friends house with a hose.

You asked about RV hook ups. RV hookups include, but are not limited to
water, sewer and electric. They can include cable tv and phone connections.

So Tiffanie, there is no need to be an ass about it. Ask a clear question
and you will get a clear answer.

Where did she use the word free? And why did you find it necessary to
rewrite her question? She wants to know if there are any hookups (not
FREE hookups) that one can use without paying for a PARK SPACE.

She asked a reasonable question and you responded as if you were the

Calm down. The reason you didn't get the answer you wanted was that
you asked for something entirely different:

>>>I am having trouble finding locations
>>>where we can find RV hookups without having to pay for an RV Park space.

As others have pointed out, water is widely avilable. Less readily
available: dump stations are sometimes free, sometimes not. Power
connections (considered part of "RV hookups") are almost always not
free.

Keep in mind that Wal-Mart's etc are for a one or at most two night stay
when there is little other options, not a place where you can live in your
RV. I will be full timing, and in fact have wanted to live in Sacramento
with my RV, but don't want to pay high park prices. There are just not many
choices locally for RV parks in the Sacramento area. The cheaper ones are
shitty trailer parks, and there isn't much more than that here. I've
thought about trying to find someone with a large lot who has an RV pad with
hookups, who are not currently using it for an RV. Don't know how to find
such a place, although I'm sure they exist here and elsewhere.

Good luck in your search.

Yeah, WalMarts aren't long term stays, at least here in Seattle. And
there's the fact that any WalMarts are at least 20-25 miles out of town.
You can also stay in the rest stops but the maximum time limit is 8
hours so that wouldn't work for long term either. I've been reading up
on the parking regulations in Seattle for Camper Vans and RVs and so far
the only restriction has been that you can't park in Seattle parks.
Obviously, those with larger motor homes may have more of a problem but
we are starting out in a camper van and then just moving up to probably
a 21-23 foot class c....parking for these guys in the seattle area
shouldn't be a problem if you move around a lot. the only problem with
this is that there are no hookups so you'll have to find a place to do
that, hence my questions about where to get water....
if i find any spots here in seattle or any other regulations i'll pass
them on.

Hi Tiffany,
I had to turn off my "filter" to find out who was hassling you. You will
find filtering out some posters a necessity if you plan to use this NG much,
alass!

But as you found out, there is good info here if you weed through the
adversarial junk from old folks with too much time on their hands. Sadly,
some of the more knowledgable people here are also often pretty crotchety -
Will Sill is a good example - he gave you one snotty comment, but several
good replies. He knows a lot about RV'ing, but can't be civil for more than
a day or two in a row. Too bad.

Tiffanie,
I was puzzled at your initial post, but I now understand. If you
cannot find a gas station with acceptable water, pull into a KOA or
other good campground. For a nominal fee, they will allow you to dump
your tanks and usually if you pay the dump fee, they will give you
water. I once pulled in to buy propane and they allowed me to dump
and fill my water tank for free.

Also this site may be useful to you.
http://www.fulltiming-america.com/rvdump/dumpwa.html
It is a listing of free dump stations in Washington. I don't know
which ones are near Seattle, but it looks as if you can figure that
out from the exit number on I-5. You also get dump stations in other
states.

Good luck,
Dale

The rest area just North of exit 206 on I-5 has RV dumps and potable
water. There's a Wal-Mart south of there a few miles next to the freeway in

Wrong. Can't you read? Did you miss the word "space" in her post?
She didn't say she wouldn't pay for the hookups, she said she didn't
want to pay for the space.

She left no doubt about the parking....why do you say "presumably" when
it was obvious?

She said "park" and you turn that into "squat" meaning you inferred
more than she implied.

No. Free space rental was a good assumption, but free utilities is not
mentioned at all in her post. Being new, she may have thought that
someone had a business that allowed temporary hookups without having to
pay for any rental space. What do people moving through town do? I
don't have an RV.

Tiffanie,

In this group, there are many who are so filled with hatred that it spills
onto just about anyone for any reason.

There are a few good folks here and even a few of those have some good
information. You just have to overlook the hateful attitude and read the
posts from the good folks.

When I read your post, I didn't get the impression that you were looking to
freeload. However, as I said, many folks here are too shallow and too
ignorant to see any other possibilities than what they wish to see.

I think they are funny as they can't quite seem to see themselves for what
they are. I can't either but I have fun with it.

There are probably many stores that will let you hook up to their water for
a slight fee and some for free.

Service stations would be a great place to try as they may let you get water
and a space to rest for very little money.

I hope that you find places that will let you do as you wish and if so, tell
the rest of us what types of places you had the most success.

Enjoy!

The point is, is that if you didn't know EXACTLY what she was looking for,
most civilized folks would have asked for more information. You? You just
go into the insult mode automatically and without provocation.
You are simply copying the rest of the sheeple in here and copy each other
and the bad attitudes get spread around because no one has the guts to stand

Hatch,

A person of integrity and a desire to do the right thing would say something
like:

"You are right and I was wrong to assume that she wanted to freeload.
I should have asked her for more information before jumping down her

Hatch, saying something like the above is indicative of a person possessing
a civil tongue and a sincere desire to be helpful and friendly to others.

Please see my other posts to you regarding the prevailing attitude in here.
It is a hotbed of dissention and ill will.

No one has the guts to stand up and speak out against the ones that are
always ready to start a fight.

Small minds, small people and huge problems are the result.

I stay here for entertainment and sometimes I can offer a little help.
My real reason is that I know that one day, these ne'erdowells will fall

Meet Hugh. Hugh goes off on you and says that you are confrontational. How
can anyone who READ your first post think that of you? How? By being a

Tiffanie, don't be taken in by the Casshole's stock ploy. He wants a
reply from a newbie (you), then he will then attack you.

Think I am kidding? Before you consider replying to his reply, have a
look at Roscoe's 5+ year slide into darkness, chronicled on Google
Groups in his own words in thousands and thousands of his eccentric
posts. For more examples than you could read in a month, click:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22pita.alt.net%22+insubject%3Acass
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rfst...@sprintmail.com

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rfst...@mci2000.com
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rfst...@flash.net
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rst...@texas.net
Note especially his malicious cross-posting to wildly unrelated
newsgroups. Also note how many ISPs have TOSsed him.

Roscoe seems to have been quite sane prior to Jan 1998, at which time
he appears to have had his first breakdown. For examples of his sane
posts in the 1995-97 pre-breakdown period, click:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rst...@ghg.net
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=rst...@ghgcorp.com
A modest number of posts, not a flood. No raving or gratuitous
personal abuse. No trolling or excessive cross-posting to unrelated
newsgroups. No way off-topic posts. No phoney/baloney FAQs. Polite.
Apparently quite sane.

It's your call to reply or not, of course, but if you do, expect to be
plonked by most of the people who know the Casshole's tactics.

There are many reasons that she could have had for asking her question/s.
Just because some of you cannot think of any other possibilities is your
shortcoming and not hers. It is the shallowness and/or narrow-mindedness in
here that causes so much trouble.

Ignorance is one of the worst things on Earth.

I have read through the posts of the group and I honestly don't want to
get involved in the politics of it all. I'm not going to get involved
int he bashing of people, and stating who needs to go where and what
not. I'm here just to get information. I've learned that some people
are really here to help and others must just not have anything better to
do. I'll just keep reading posts and getting the information I need.
If I have further questions I'll glady ignore the people who respond in
a downgrading manner and happily take the advice of those who want to
help. But I'm not going to get involved in the who's who and who to
ignore. Like I said, just here for the RV info as I'm new to the RV
world. Thanks again to all who helped with my initial question.

Tiffanie, before you taken in by the Casshole, your self-appointed
alt.rv mentor, have a look at what he did to your cross-posting list.
He took your post, which was posted only to alt.rv, and maliciously
cross-posted it to:
alt.rv.pop-up-trailers
houston.eats
houston.general
rec.outdoors.rv-travel
He didn't explain why, or even mention that he had done so.

I have trimmed these four from the cross-posting list. But ask
yourself why this net loon is cross-posting a Seattle-specific thread
to a Houston restaurant newsgroup and another Houston-specific
newsgroup if not to set up a large audience to see him cleverly attack
you in his next round of posts.

Avoid this loon like the plague.

Tiffanie,

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the cast of characters here in this
group.

One of the worst is roadwarrior. This person is so mean and vengeful and
ignorant that he wants to cause physical harm to body and property of anyone
who post a message that the poster thinks germane to what is or has been
discussed.

Roadwarrior is so brainwashed that even though it has been pointed out to
him many times, that Internet Service Providers encourage a limited amount
of cross-posting in order to save their customers some time and effort from
having to copy and paste from one group into another.

Roadwarrior is a net-nanny of the worst kind and demands that you inform him
as to why you post this or post that and explain to him why you may choose
to post in another group.

Failing that, he may issue a vendetta against you and hope to convince the
world that you are evil incarnate and deserve to be shot.

I wish he could get straight in his mind what I really am. Below, he calls
me a loon. Heck, and here I was thinking I was a moron. This identity
crises is driving me to cross-post and that is grounds for torture by the
Feyadeen.

Oh, Tiffanie, be certain to not reply to me because if you do, roadwarrior
will never speak to you again and he most certainly will not read anything
you have to say. I am so sorry to break that news to you but I feel that
you should be informed of the terrible possible loss of roadwarrior as a
member of your audience.

Oh, it is true, Tiffanie. But you see, I don't wish to offend you or
alienate you but, you have to realize that the Internet is a public place
and it is a give-and-take proposition. When someone posts, it goes all over
the world and they have to expect that their posts may end up in places that
they didn't intend.

That is the reality of Internet. What I post many times goes into all sorts
of places that I didn't know about or are aware of. I just accept the fact
that it is a two-way street.

Tiffanie, you may or not be new to the Internet as well. I see that you
call this newsgroup a 'room' and may be under the impression that it is a
chatroom where folks come to chat. It is not. It is a newsgroup intended
to provide a place for folks to congregate and discuss the topic of the
newsgroup. Almost always, it becomes a chatroom, too. I don't care as I
don't want to police folks but folks like roadwarrior will cross-post and
chat off-topic and turn right around and condemn others for doing the same
thing.

So, your information is not guaranteed to stay in one place. Usenet or
newgroups are not designed with that in mind.

Take care.

Free advice: Good counsel often comes in a direct, blunt - maybe even
"rude" manner, depending on the attitude of the reader. Bad counsel
often comes from sweetly "nice" posts from clueless twits. I urge you
not to judge the usefulness of answers on the basis of the perceived
"tone" of the answerer.

Ask clear, simple questions one at a time, and quite a few regulars
will knock themselves out trying to help. You will soon learn whose
counsel is worth considering.

I know how it works. I work for an Internet Service Provider, and never
have we advised people to cross-post for other people. If the person
posting would like to cross-post, that is up to them and can save time,
but we do not tell other people to cross-post for other users. Either
way though, I prefer to post my posts where I want to post them and I

Yes, roadwarrior, I was quite sane because I mistakenly thought that most
folks were nice and tried to do the right thing. Then, I had an epiphany
and realized that there are some very vile and mean folks on the Internet,
too.

In real life (this is real life, too), one can get away from folks that they
think are mean and vile. Here on the Internet, everyone is thrown in
together and you just have to be able to correctly identify the good from
the bad, just like you do in real life. The difference is that you only can
judge folks by what and how they conduct themselves when posting. Just by
the typed word, it is sometimes hard to assess a person correctly. Many
folks will see one or two bad posts and conclude that the person is not one
anyone would want to be around. That isn't so. Everyone can have a bad day
two or month. It is the long haul that tells the tale. When someone's
demeanor is constantly vile and venomous and dictatorial, it is a good sign
that person is lower in the food chain.

As I said, roadwarrior, I have been on the Internet much longer than what
you think and the only breakdown I have had is when I breakdown laughing at
just how mean and stupid you seem to be.

Tiffanie,

I never said that Internet Service Providers advise folks to cross-post for
others. I simply said that many I.S.P.s encourage the practice of limited
cross-posting by making their customers aware of their approval of it.

View your posts as if you wrote a letter to the editor of a magazine or
writing an article for that mag. No reasonable person will ever expect that
the magazine be only distributed to places that the author hopes. A
reasonable author realizes that once their 'piece' is in the public domain,
it is out of their control and others can load or give their magazine to
anyone for their perusal. No reasonalbe person advertises in a newspaper
and expects it to be distributed only in the neighborhoods that they prefer.

Now, if you are talking about email, even that is really in the public
domain although most folks view it as personal and confidential.

I think that roadwarrior and a few others in here is wont to readily post
other folk's emails in public.

Did anyone else notice that the Casshole equates writing a letter to
the editor to his purposeful restoring his goofy cross-posting list
each time someone trims it? Like it's a physical law too well known
for him to even acknowledge. Jeez!

Here's an allegory, then a coupla rhetorical questions:

THE ALLEGORY
Casshole goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, I have a problem with
gas. But it really doesn't bother me too much because it never smells
and is always silent. As a matter of fact, while I've been in your
crowded waiting room doing newsgroups on my laptop, I've passed gas at
least 50 times. No one noticed it because it's quiet and doesn't
smell."

The doctor says, "I see. Take these pills and come back to see me next
week."

The next week, the Casshole returns. "Doctor," he says, "I don't know
what you gave me, but now my farts (cross-posts) -- although still
silent -- smell terrible."

"Good," the doctor says. "Now that we've cleared up your sinuses,
let's work on your hearing."

THE RHETORICAL QUESTIONS
Does anyone believe that Cass REALLY doesn't know what a repugnant,
universally reviled little turd he is? Why would anyone revel in the
disdain of strangers, when he could change his handle and his evil
ways, and join civil society?

roadwarrior,

You can't tell the truth even once. You have bragged about how you never
see my postings as you have me in your killfile. Then, you chastise the
entire world for posting in a way that you don't like.

You even are so far consumed with your self-importance and propensity to
bend others to the way you want them to post by telling me that I am now
doing the heinous 'top-posting'. If I could figure a way to side post,
you would complain about that, too.

Are you really, really this miserable with yourself that you just have to
find fault in everything that doesn't suit you?

I am having another 'breakdown' laughing at you but, at the same time, I am
saddened to realize that you cannot realize that you create your own misery.
You have the power to choose if you want to let me or anyone else bring you
to the point of a childish little girl's nattering and whining.

Say, I wonder if it would please you if I listed some faults that I know I
have? That way, we could have a fresh exchange about those and we could
give the terrible faux pas of cross-posting and top-posting a rest?

Oh, what is it that sends you into a quivering, shaking mass of neurosis
about anyone top-posting? Others prefer it as they don't have to scroll
down to find a reply.

Maybe you are one of the ones that want to add inches to your penis. I
understand that you can buy Viagra online, now.
With a pill and an extra inch, and a one thousand dollar hooker, you may
have a better outlook.
If you can't afford one thousand dollars, you could just take matters into
your own hands.

Give 'em and inch and they take a hand.

I learn a lot about the other side of the fence here.
I think that everyone should broaden their perspectives even if only to

If you ever get down to Houston, you can dump your tanks in Cass's back
yard. I'm sure someone in here can supply you with his address (it's been
posted before).

Now that's an idea I could like. Maybe we could form a rally
group, meet at its house and all dump our tanks. Its
neighbors might not like us but Hey...

Maybe you should learn self-control and NOT READ WHAT YOU CAN'T TAKE.

Just a suggestion as you really don't have to do what I say.

Tom,

Why do you buy a newspaper and whine and cry when you read it?

Chris,

Then, why do you see every post that I make?

Are you still trying to convince folks that vinyl records will render more
faithful reproduction than a cd?

I think that I may make a list of your fallacious beliefs. It will make for
a good and mirthful respite from the in-fighting.

Maybe I should charge for this. I didn't realize it took so little to amuse
some folks.
