I will be traveling to central Mexico this fall. I want to use a
satilite modum for my computer while there. Does any one have any
experience with this or know where I can fink out? Thanks Chaynes

I have no experience with this, but the reports I read in alt.mexico
are that this isn't a practical reality in most parts of Mexico. Searching
through that group on Google, as well as posting this question in a
satellite group would probably get you a better answer. If you're asking
about a one way system, just finding a way to hook up to a land line will be
a major problem in most places.

That said, why bother? Internet cafes are available even in most of the
small cities these days. For 10 to 15 pesos an hour away from the heavily
touristed areas and 60 pesos an hour (and up) in the places over run with
gringos you can have all the access that most people need. In rare cases,
such as one of the RV parks in Guadaljara you can get internet access at the
RV park.

Have you actually travelled with your RV and set up your sat modem at
different places in the States? Because baby, once you move that sat
dish, it's a bitch to find the signal again.

Yes, I have. After the first or second time, it is not much harder than the
TV dish. Just takes practice, meticulousness and a second set of eyes at the
computer monitor.

if it is 2 way internet you may run in to problems with signal bleeding on
your uplink...
which could cause your service to be shut down...the FCC can still screw you
in MeHICo

You may wish to check this out with the Mexican Authorities.

Most Latin countries are *very* touchy about anything that can *transmit*
an RF signal.

Or you can go to mexconnect.com. Go to the forums link. Try the
general forum. You should get any info you want, on any subject
including yours.
