I'd like to hear some comments on how to connect a laptop wirelessly
to the internet. I think there are some wireless modems out there
and also ways to connect with you cell phone.
Also, what percentage of campgrounds now have telephone outlets?
Thanks Steve
Check out the lastest on CNET about wireless networks at:

There is a relatively inexpensive method to access Verizon's network for
data communications which has been covered pretty thoroughly on the
newsgroup...
I would imagine your provider, if different, is covered with its own
newsgroup.
A better question, IMO, is when are campgrounds (especially
urban/highway corridor ones) going to adopt a wireless LAN for internet
access? ...much more efficient than cellular and an excellent
opportunity for the campground to promote local activities and
businesses.....
I carry my laptop anywhere on our property and can sit down and access
the internet.....hopefully, soon RV'ers will be able to do this as well,
and at broadband speeds. That would be an ammenity I'd definitely pay
for.
I don't think, with the proliferation of inexpensive cellular service,
that campgrounds are going to rush to put in phone systems for all their
sites. The ones catering to long-term residents might, but, IMO, it's
just not cost-effective.

Go to http://www.teleadaptusa.com and look around or give them a call.
I have been connecting with my cellular/digital AT&T phone for over a
year.
I have not run into any campgrounds that have wireless network
connections or even high speed wired connections.
Most campgrounds are just getting a place to connect a notebook to a
land line. I would guess that well more than half of all commercial
campgrounds have a place to connect to a land line to check email.
Those campgrounds that don't have a place to connect most likely will
not in the near future. They just hope the problem will go away and
hope that the Internet craze will fade. They also don't own a
computer. Long Beach Campground in Oak Island, NC comes to mind.
We just finished a two week stay at the Jekyll Island Campground which
is a State Park and they had four phone lines for Internet use, up
from two just last year and upfrom just one phone line the year
before.
