I have a 1986 Jayco 1206. I went to open it up today, and found that
the crank does not "lock" when you stop turning it. It will just
reverse direction, and the roof starts to drop down. I'm sure it must
be a problem with the ratchet. Does anyone know if I can fix this
myself? How do you get to the ratchet assembly? Thanks for any help,
we were hoping to use the camper next weekend, but can't unless this is
fixed!

There were several posts about this same issue in the last two weeks.
Although I do not recall the solution, it was given. Try searching back
through posts in the last two weeks to find your solution.

Hope this helps.

I had a '92 Jayco Cardinal popup before I sold it this year
for my 5th-wheel. On the inside of the trailer there is
a panel directly behind the crank access door. It was
removed by taking out 1 or 2 screws. This gave access to
the winch for maintenance. Maybe you will find the problem
by just looking at it.
