A bed mounted hitch. Similar to that of a semi trucks.

The trailer has a "kingpin" on a long neck that reaches over the tailgate and
connects to the hitch.

There is also a "Gooseneck" trailer that is similar but the neck hooks directly
to a large hitch ball mounted in the bed of the truck.

Hope this helps. Someone can probably describe it better but maybe this will do
for now.

I'd suggest you visit www.gorving.com. You'll see the differences among all
the seven RV types. I requested the video about 3 years ago. It explains
more fully.

Instead of the trailer connected to a hitch ball at the rear of the tow
vehicle, the trailer connects to a hitch located in the bed of a pickup
truck. This means the trailer has a high overhanging front end, usually
this is the bed. Most people say the 5th wheel tows considerably easier
than a standard rear ball hitch. It's also much more difficult to
jackknife, making it easier to back the trailer at almost 90 degree
angles. There are no 5th wheel tent trailers, but there are very small
hard sided 5th wheels in the 19' range.

And we now see some hybrid 5th wheel, where the rear end converts into a bed with a canvass, same as in an Hybrid.  I just don't recall which brand makes them, but saw one last year
