Stupid question #2 for today for me:

Is this Trail Lite Bantam a travel trailer, or a popup ? I have never heard of
it.

It's a trailer but the beds fold out like a pop-up. You can see it at this
site.

We had to run out to our dealer today, and saw one up close and
personal...just wish we had gone inside, but we did get a good look through
the windows.

It's a full size trailer, well we looked at a 21 ft., and the ends unlatch
and fold down and open (drops open like the door on your oven) and the
supports for the end bunks attach underneath. You pull out the tenting just
over the beds.

The central area is a light weight full size trailer. The one we looked at
had two dinette areas inside the trailer, I'm sure each folded down into a
bed...small kitchen area, potty shower combo and a closet, assorted
cabinets...

This is something we might consider in a couple years as a compromise
between ease of set up, and pop up camping. We were a little leary of the
lite weight factor and we heard light weight were a little less durable...

So there ya go!

OK, I know it's not really a popup but it's almost a popup and we really
like it. There is one definite disadvantage to it though. I miss being able
to see over the top of the popup while towing and backing. But it has the
same interior roomy feeling and is light and easy to tow. As far as
durability, I don't think that will be a problem due to the construction
methods used, but I guess we'll have plenty of time to find out about that.
They are somewhat more expensive than popups of course. We paid 8575 +
tax/license and ours is the small model without shower or hot water. It does
have heat and a 2way fridge and sleeps 6 comfortably. Anyway I hope you
won't kick us out because it's not really a popup, because that's still the
kind of camping we do and we really like this NG.

Ok hanging my head, suddenly embarrassed by your post, I like them too, and
we actually talked about this being a lite weight alternative that gets us
the best of both worlds...security from worse weather, and sleeping in a
tent and open feeling. We are keeping our Bayside for now, but it's
something we are going to keep our eye on.

I think you qualify to stay...LOL

Hey, even pop-ups don't pop up. Coleman calls ours a folding trailer but
it doesn't really fold, either. And "crank-up" sounds funny....

Stick around. We're a fun group when we're not taking shots at each
other.

Yes.
Saw my first one yesterday. Pretty neat! Dealer was asking 11,900 for
17' and 13,900 for 21' fully loaded. Made by Trail-Lite.

Wow, $13900, for abt $14000 you can get the 21 foot version of the Starcraft
POP-OUT (their version of the Bantam) and it is really loaded full bath,
furnace, air, cdplayer, skylight over the shower and power vent over potty.
Oak cabinets, two dinettes. inside -outside 3 burner stainless steel stove,
and more.
Withh all the name brands now making expanding trailers the Bantams seem a
little crude to me. I like Starcraft, and Thor Cub in particular

Hello everybody, if anyone needs any info on the Thor Cub (Aero) let me know.
We have one and love it. It has had some problems but nothing that was'nt
taken care of. Leaving tomorro for Martin dies SP, here in Texas for four
days. I can answer questions when we get back. Thanks Eddie

We rented a Trail-lite Bantam (17') before we bought our '99 Coleman Utah. We
knew we wanted to move up from tenting and it was the smallest thing available
to rent. We like pulling the pop-up better because of less wind resistance and
easier to see. We have a lot more floor space in our pop-up than we did in the
Bantam. We have two king beds in our pop-up and I believe even the biggest
Bantam doesn't give King beds. Also, our mattresses in our pop-up are more
comfortable. The Bantam did have a nicer stove and refrigerator (it was bigger
and included a freezer). It had a closed-door potty and shower too, but I
prefer not to have an indoor shower, but a door for the toilet was nice. It
had lots more convenient cabinet space than our pop-up and you can get it with
an installed microwave. It also has a shelf with cable & antenna hookups for a
small t.v.. The Bantam keeps cooler with the AC on in open areas too.

Overall, we like our '99 Coleman Utah pop-up better (obviously, since we bought
it after renting the Bantam). It was less expensive (by about $3,000), we like
towing it better even though it weighs MORE than the Bantam, and we like the
amount of floorspace and the visibility to the outside we get with our pop-up.
If there were just two of us it might not be such a big deal. But with two
adults, two kids and a small dog, I like the extra interior space, the bigger
beds and no trailer can compete with the beautiful views you can get in all
directions from a pop-up trailer.

That's how we feel, too. We looked in several travel trailers too, the regular
kind, and the Bayside has more open floor space than any of them (within the
smaller lengths).

Other types of RV's are great for those who like them. But I do love the
openness of the popup. That is one of the reasons we didn't get the
TrailManor. It had very little moving around room inside, and those hard walls
really got to me. Maybe I'm a little claustrophobic ;-)

Well said. Our families and friends had no idea what a pop-up really is
and so were very impressed when we set it up and showed them how much
room and the many comforts of home we have in that little box.
