I've seen someone pull a small pup-up with a Volvo... not sure what model
it was but the pop-up was a small starcraft (probably 17 or 18 feet open)
the owner said he had not too much problem with it, but I'm sure this
would not be very good for suspension and transmission....and again, not
sure how it performed when climbing hills...
Unis.
bonne chance

I am not sure of the tow rating of the car - it is probably about 3000
lbs, like my Saab 9-5 Wagon - or the weight of your pop-up, but I
would recommend the V70 2.4T AWD or an XC if you are going to purchase
a new model. The added traction will be a real benefit when towing,
and the car will be terrific in the snow with the right tires. The AWD
option in the USA is only $1750 USD - that is a real bargain, IMHO.
The V70 T5 is a real haul-ass street rocket, but it has ferocious
torque steer and is FWD only, so I would stay away from that model for
towing.

Thank you Mel, for your advise. The base/dry weight of my 2106 is
1500pounds and Volvo talk about 3300pounds for the V70. It's the hitch
weigth of 150pounds + double LP tank + battery === too heavy (i
think).
I tried the 2.4T and it seems enough powerful . The version AWD is
+$2500CAN here. I'm not sure about the hitch weight(150+2LP
tank+battery).
Thank you for your information.

If excessive hitch weight is your only concern, that can easily be
corrected with an equalizing (or weight distributing) hitch. Usually
the tow ratings of a vehicle allow about double the recommended hitch
"dead weight" when you hook up an equalizing hitch, since much of the
weight is transferred to the front wheels. An added benefit is that
the rig will drive much better with an equalizing hitch.

Also, try to find the maximum weight the vehicule can carry ( car+payload+trailer)
they say that the vehicule dry weight is 3405pounds (1528kg)
add to that: 1500(the pop-up) + 90(batt+lp) + 400(food,clothes,toys,bikes...) + 350(family of 2
adults/2kids)
this gives you 3405+2340=5745pounds (2611kg) this should not exceed 75% of the first value you
need to find.(ie: that value needs to by higher than 7660 pounds)
hope it's clear...

I have a Volvo XC (2000) with which I tow a Coleman Sea Pine, we live in
Ontario and we went to Montreal, Quebec City, OuterBanks, Myrtle Beach, the
Smokey Mountains, etc. without any problem. Usually we travel with two other
adults.
And in winter is a great car with its all wheel drive.

Thank you Alfred for your comments.Do you use a weight distrubution
hitch whith your Coleman Sea Pine?
Joel
No, I installed a Volvo hitch and I'm using synthetic oil.
Cheers
