Hey all!

I'm not familar with the Flagstaff line. I'm helping my friend
locate a pop-up camper for his family and came across this
camper for sale in the town next to ours.

>1998 Flagstaff 206L, Queen and double bed, AC, Furnace,
>3 way refrigerator, Stove, Sleeps 6, Awning, Showroom
>Condition. $4,400.00

For the Flagstaff owners out there: have you been happy with the
design and construction of your campers? Is anyone familar with
this model? (I can't find any online floor plans anywhere). It
sounds faily equivalent to my Santa Fe in terms of bed sizes,
options, etc, which is a design that his family likes.

I'd appreciate any good/bad reviews of the Flagstaff line and
this model in particular so I can relay them to Bill.

Thanks!!

Ed

Hey Ed,

Flagstaff is made by Forest River. They are in the process of building a new
web page.
www.forestriverinc.com
I have a '98 824D that I think is great. I've not had any problems with it
whatsoever(sp?). Mine has a slide out dinette, king, queen, double bet & a
gaucho. It has a furnace, a/c, awning & battery for dry camping. I paid
$6,200 for mine last October. It had been in the showroom of a local dealer
and had never been titled so it came with all the warranties. Well worth the
price (IMHO) for the warranty alone. Don't think I could beat the option v.s.
price.

I have a 1995 Flagstaff 823. Mine was made by Cobra, though, the newer ones
are made by another company. I have looked at some of the newer ones and
there is not much difference. It tows easily, setup up is not to hard and it
is comfortable. Dislikes are a poor seal between the beds and the body
allowing air to get in (only a problem if you are trying to heat the camper.
Also lets bugs in) The lift system seems lighter made than on a Coleman, but
I have never had any trouble with it and the bed pull out guides are a
little lighter than I would like, but again they have not given me any
trouble. It is solidly built though. Last year I was at Cleveland, Ohio
parked in a parking lot and some idiot backs up directly into the back
corner of the camper. It destroyed the fender and truck lid of his little
car but only busted out my tail light and put a dent into the camper with no
damage seen on the inside.

All:

We own a 1996 Flagstaff 206 ST. It has queen and double beds, furnace, 3 way
fridge, flip down sink, 10 (might be 15) gallon water storage tank, awning, and
storage deck at top of camper. We just put air in it last week. We bought it
used - maybe a couple of seasons - not even twice each season. We paid $2500.00
for ours. We think we got a good deal.

The reason we say that is totally because of the price. It was brand new inside -
very clean, no mildew, no damage. We have since ripped a corner of the tenting at
the top (the seam just pulled apart due to stress while tightening tent), and
rubbed the roof a little while putting the door away. We've fixed those things
without any problems.

While we enjoy our good deal, and it is built all right, we do not feel this
camper is that solidly built, as compared to a Coleman. For example, under the
double bed, there is a wood covered slanted pitch (where the end of the camper is)
- our kids would easily put their foot right through that if we didn't remind them
or scream at them to stop!

While we don't have any problems with our roof and don't have sag problems like
Coleman's ABS, we found the slide mechanisms on our beds to be poorly designed.
(It takes two of us to slide in the queen bed - and the wheel is poorly placed so
that it catches and pulls the weather stripping over it every time we slide the
bunk in). We have no problems with the bunk ends - it has fabric that slips over
like a cover the end of the bunk and bungee cords to make it taught (I know other
brands have nicer features - Palomino, I'm thinking of).

And we've told the story of how Joe cracked the Structurewood bed while in Tucson
AZ. The bed is weighted I think to 750 lbs., and while Joe is a big guy, he's not
that heavy!

The seals on the door as well as the storage deck are not well sealed - I'm sure
everyone though has had to reinforce this at one time or another.

We take very good care of our pop up, but I think other brands (especially for
over the $4K mark) should be looked at carefully. New and updated interior is
nice, but look for the construction quality and the features that you can get with
that price tag. I think when you're looking at a pop up for under $2,000, the
"best" in materials, like Coleman claims, may not be something you can afford, but
I think you really have more choice when you look at pop ups over $4,000.

It may be a bargain compared to a 1998 Coleman that you might pay up to $6K or $8K
for, but there are other brands for that price range that you also might like
better for your money.

Also, check out NADA RV pricing guide to see what the blue book value on the
trailer is. We found that our Flagstaff doesn't hold price too well. We'll count
on supply and demand when we sell ours, and since we paid so little for it, and
because it now has air, we think we'll easily get our money out of it, but I don't
see any appreciation or any price stability at all.

Just my $.02 worth - although, I do like my Flagstaff.

Hi All

I believe that Cobra Industries used to made the Rockwood but I
am not sure about the Flagstaff. Cobra industries went out of
business around 1995.

I believe that Forest River now makes both the Rockwood and the
Flagstaff. If you compare the two, you will not see much
difference other than interior colors.

Cobra Industries and Forest River are one ant the same. After Cobra went
bankrupt, the CEO purchase back most of the company. We sell the Wildwood
travel trailer by Forest River and our rep is still the same guy in the same
office. And for what it is worth the product is still the same quality.
Flagstaff popups and Rockwood popups are very much the same,,,,,just the
Rockwood cost more ...go figure.
