Hi- First time posting here but have been using you people for
some very interesting insight into the world of pop up camping.
We,re strongly considering buying our 1st trailer. Looking at a
new Coleman Bayside. At 10 grand, I was wondering about
insurance coverage and costs. I have not contacted my auto and
home insurance agent yet, but imagine that he would be more than
willing to cover it for the right price. I'm wondering if this
is the way to go or is it better to get a separate policy
considering cost and good coverage. Also, if anyone would care
to share their insurance costs and types of coverage it would be
appreciated. Can a person get away with just insuring it during
the months actually used and maybe just carry a comprehensive
type insurance for the other months? Randy.

Just call your auto insurance company, I only pay about 60 bucks
a year extra on my policy for decent coverage. Good luck!

I have my all insurance with the same agent. I pay $97/year for full
coverage on a 2000 model Tracker 14slsc with $250 deductible. List
price for the unit was approximately $10,000.

Mine is $50.00 per year, 250 deductible on a '96 Coleman Shenandoah. Without
coverage only damage to other's property would be covered by my tow vehicle
insurance.

I pay around $72/yr just outside of Dallas. I have my auto insurance
with State Farm and this is a separate policy that has $50 deductible.
While on vacation a couple months ago, the roof came off my 1991
Rockwood and they paid internet NADA bluebook less the $50. Final
resolution was $3850, more than I ever thought they would pay. Thank
you State Farm.

Normally your tow vehicle insurance covers trailers as well for
accidents etc. The additional insurance is usally for non-tow
conditions. Fire, theft, wind etc.

We pay 138 dollars a year to insure our Camplite with value of 11,000. Our 89
Coleman was 50 dollars a year and our 86 Sunlite was 38 dollars a year. When
our Sunlite came off the hitch and broke the front lift arms, State Farm paid
us 1200.00 which is what we had paid for the camper 3 years previously. We
bought the camper back for 125.00 (salvage price) and then had new front lift
arms put on the front. The insurance was definitely worth it

Randy:

My pop up is covered under my auto policy with a premium of
$56.00/year. It is ccvered for collision, fire, theft,
vandalism, etc.. It has a $50.00 deductible and includes the
tent material. While I am towing it, my auto liability extends
to the pop up.

I also have homeowner's insurance. The liability limit on it
extends to "away from home" activities like camping. So if
someone trips and falls (either in the pop up, or outside), gets
burned on a stove, etc., my homeowner's insurance liability
limits cover me there.

Most likely, your pop up can be added to your auto policy at a
low cost like mine. With coverage being only $4.66 month, I just
keep the pop up insured continuously throughout the year. You
never know when a tree in the yard is going to fall on your pop
up <vbg>.

Call AAA in your area. Mine costs $60 per year with roadside
assistance. The trailer should be insured and it doesn't cost
that much to have it all year. That way you are covered...no
matter what...

For our Coleman Bayside (nice trailer BTW!) we have it added onto our auto
policy. I believe it is around $90 per year. May I add that we're not sure we
did the right thing. After having spent $9295, we may have been better off
with a full RV policy, where you can buy full replacement cost coverage for the
first couple or few years, and a few other amenities. We are currently
investigating the differences.

with MSI.
