We are planning a trip to Southern or Central Vermont this summer. I
would appreciate any suggestions on good campgrounds there. Also,
does anyone have any opinions on camping facilities in Vermont's state
parks?

Thanks......Mark

We stopped for lunch last year at the state park, that is on the road,
believe it is highway 9, that cuts across vermont from albany,,,,hope this
is correct, nice picnic area, camping sites looked nice, park on a lake, and
had a section for dogs...

Don't have my map or i could be more specific,,

We stayed at the Lake Champagne Campground near Randolph Center. This
campground is located near the center of Vermont and we found it
convenient to tour around the state while we spent nights there in the
middle. We really liked the campground - friendly, very clean and the
setting was very pastoral. We'll probably stay there again if we go back
to Vermont.

VT parks do not have hookups, but they seem to have hot showers.

Some sites have lean-to's, which might give you extra room.

For Central Vermont, I like Gifford Woods SP. Small, virgin forest, and the
Appalachian Trail goes right through the CG .

Last July we spent a week at the Riversbend Campground near
Middlebury, Vermont. The park was very clean, and extremely quiet. The
sites on the river are really lovely. The campground is close to a lot
of attractions (Ben & Jerry's factory, Middlebury, Otter Creek
Brewery, Vermont Marbleworks, and the fabulous Shelburne Museum. We
had a great, but very hot, week. Canoeing on the river was a nice,
cool treat.

You might want to check out the web site for Riversbend:

We did an 18 day trip 2 years ago staying 4 days at Gifford Woods State Park
then 5 nights at a place called "Kamperville" then up to northern Vermont for a
few nights at Smugglers Notch State Park. Then over to New Hamshire for a few
nights. We favor State Parks in most states including Vermont. Vermont Parks
are all very clean. I would say that their showerhouses are the cleanest
around. (but most of them have pay showers). We have stayed at Gifford State
Park twice in the last 6 years. Depending on what month you go I would make a
reservation a month or so ahead to get a good site for a pop-up. The average
Vermont State Park has no more than 50 sites and many of them are only good for
tents or very small trailers. We also stayed at a place called Kamperville
about 30 miles north Gillord Woods. They have 3 pools and many activities.
They have about 200 sites, with some being very large and some small. You must
also book early here to because they book up fast. I could give you some site
#'s if you plan making reservation ahead of time for Gifford Woods. I think we
paid $10 a night at Gifford Woods. Kamperville was Very $$$$, I think we paid
$30+ for a site with electric.
