I was just wondering if anyone else out there has a mid 70's Lionel
pop-up.

Last year, my wife and I just inherited (from her parents) a 1974 Lionel
pop-up tent trailer. It's a small one, model "LPL 60", 6 feet long, 6
feet wide. No heater, no electrical, no fridge/icebox, no lift system,
no table inside, etc.

It's still in decent shape, with no wood rot, and the canvas is still
intact. It has a good awning. Last year I had to do some work on it, as
it had not been moved in about 5 years. We replaced the wheel bearings,
painted the metal frame, installed a new hitch assembly, patched and
primed and painted the roof, replaced the door handle.

This year I will have to replace the tires and perhaps re-wire the
lights.

Anyone have any idea what this would be worth in good shape? Despite a
lot of searching, I can't find any information on ones this old and this
small. It's definitely not sexy, and newer models will quickly outshine
her, but we like it. The price was right (free) and $100 worth of parts
got her back to new again. Can't beat that for value!!

Last summer we took her from Winnipeg to the British Columbia interior
(4500 km round trip) with no problems at all.

If there's any interest, I may be able to post pictures of it.

Hi Mike.
We Don't have a Lionel but saw quite a few in Winnipeg when we bought our
first pop-up 6 years ago. They are becoming less common each year. At that
price though you couldn't go wrong.

Hello Mike,

I don't know if you're still monitoring this thread, but I see one of these LPL 60 for sale asking $575 in the Cloverdale (Surrey BC) area.

My question is, how much does yours weigh? The owner claims 390lbs, which might be on a tag somewhere, but I don't believe that. 390 without the roof and canvas and beds, maybe. I am sure it is a steel frame with a box on top. The metal mesh frame that's 3.5ft x 5ft from Lowes is 225lbs. So I have to wonder.

Anyhow, have you weighed it completely empty? Or what does the GVWR say on your tag? Cloverdale is a good 1hr drive from Vancouver, door to door, so I am not doing that just yet.

Thank you,
~Robert
PS How do you set yours up? Take long? I know the beds slide out, but what about the roof, given there's no lift mechanism.
