I would think it would depend on how much your popup is worth.....we paid
cash for ours in 1992....nearly 9,000 dollars but we still carry full
coverage on it. our popup is valued at around 5000 now so we have it
insured for that amount......we live in an area where he get lotsa hail in
the spring and summer and have had the roof replaced before because of hail
damage . insurance does come in handy......

Your dealer might be correct but I'd wanna hear it from my insurance agent
too.

It isnt expensive to have a policy for full coverage on the popup itself.
Ours ran about 120 a year when our popup was brand new for full coverge on a
$9,000 popup. It was well worth it when we had a bad hail storm and had to
have to top replaced......

To me, 28.00 every six months is cheap peace of mind...

I took the extra coverage for peace of mind, too!

You may want to verify just what sort of liability coverage you have
through your auto insurance. My understanding is the trailer is covered
by the auto insurance only when connected to the tow vehicle. As an
example: if you back into something with the trailer and cause property
damage, the auto insurance covers it. If the trailer hops off the hitch,
the auto insurance covers that, too. If someone falls while stepping
into or out of the trailer- no coverage. That's what the extra $128 a
year covers. BTW- that's kind of steep- mine is about $56 a year as a
rider to my homeowner's policy. The trailer is considered an extension
of my house, no matter where the trailer actually is.
Personal injury lawsuits cost major bucks to defend so I would consider
liability insurance a mandatory expense.

Check that with your insurance carrier, as we found that it isn't always
true.

Be sure to have insurance coverage in the event of catastrophy.

I think it varies from company to company.
Without any rider, my Erie policy covers the camper for liability while
being towed.
> Homeowners insurance will cover the camper and contents while parked.
My Erie homeowners policy covers the camper while parked at the primary
residence (the one the homeowners policy is covering).
It also provides some percentage of the personal property coverage that
applies to my posessions when located away from the primary residence
(like in the camper, or a car, or a hotel room).

In my case it does. YMMV
> Be sure to have insurance coverage in the event of catastrophy.
I needed to add collision and comprehensive coverage for the camper to
my auto policy to get "complete" coverage. Only a loss can determine for
sure how complete.

And so far so good - red squirrel damage over winter covered completely, both
to posessions and camper components.
Thats about what we paid when our coleman was brand new and we have had
to only use it once to have the top replaaced due to hail damage.....Its a
wise investment at a small cost....
