This is my second posting and hopefully I can get some input from fellow
rv-group.

We are heading up to Bear Lake up in Utah and doing the Minnetonka Caves.
Is there someone that has done the long haul and would suggest a direction
or path that we should travel from the Phoenix area? My concerns are taking
the trip with a 98 Suburban in low gear for that length of time. We found
out the first big camping trip that we had left it in high. Good thing we
had a warrenty - the trans had to be replaced. We have the 4 wheel drive
and low and high - any suggestions? Also, if you have any good ideas on
Bear Lake and what you did around the June time frame I would appreciate it.

We have a 2000 Yosemite Jayco - I have a problem with the step up attachment
that you step on when going into the camper. Our 2nd trip it hit the side
of the curb (I know what you are going to say - take wider turns) and bent
the darn thing. Has anyone else had this problem and would suggest some
other step attachment? It just seems very low clearence?

Okay... one more wine... as I look at the rear view mirror - ( and I'm not
one of those that puts the mirrors on the side of the vehicle) - I find that
I only have about 1/2 of the back window that I can see out of. Has anyone
added a lift kit to their Suburban to help with this?

Thanks again... This is a great site for the beginner...

Sorry to nitpick here, but if you have a 98 Burb, and you are pulling
a pop-up, any pop-up, you should be able to put'er in gear and go.
IMHO, your tranny was defective to begin with. You should be able to
leave it in high and forget about it. Understand, unless you have a
small 4 cylinder Matsumoto clone there is nothing to pulling pop-ups.
Even the heaviest pop-up weighs less than a small TT, plus they have
no wind resistance. With a Suburban, you shouldn't even know it's
there, unless there is something drastically wrong with the Burb.

Hello Bret etal.

I would tend to agree that your Suburban should have no problem towing a pop
up. I'm not sure of the engines and transmissions available but would place
a bet that the smallest is the 4.3liter V6. The only thing that wasn't clear
was whether you were towing in 4wd or 2wd. IMHO and from what I have read
you should never tow in 4wd unless you are pulling something out of the mud,
etc. Thats a bad thing for your transmission if you go very far.

Regarding the step, You might be able to take the step off of your Jayco and
bend it back into shape.

Either way, have fun, and enjoy your upcoming trip.
