I need to do some work on my '83 Jayco, but I am not sure what to use to drive
the screws.

The screw head has a square recess that I haven't seen anywhere else. Anyone
have any advice on where to look for a screwdriver that'll work?

Thanks,

These are called square drive screws. Available in three different drive
sizes; #2 being the most common. They're more common in Canada than the
U.S.

My local Home Depot carries both the "screwdrivers" and "drill bits"
for square drive screws. One handy version is a screwdriver style
tool with a "ball" rather than a square end, it allows you to insert
the tool (and turn the screw) at an angle as well as stright-on.

To be specific, the square drive head is called a "Robertson". As noted, they
are more common in Canada, and are only used in the furnitute business and in
RVs. Home Depot carries the bits. Many newer screws come with a combination
head that uses Phillips and/or Robertson bits.

The square drive head are really superior to Phillips, since the bit cannot
back out like a Phillips.

Peace, Larry.

Thanks for all the input on the new (to me) world of square-drive screws. I
appreciate your taking the trouble to give the advice.
