Has anyone camped at Gulf State Park in Alabama?? We had a family vacation in
Grayton Beach, Florida a couple of years ago <panhandle area> and absolutley
loved it. We didn't camp and we'd love to go back to that area and do so.
Only problem is...Florida state parks don't allow pets and we really want to
bring along our dog. He loves the ocean as much as we do. This park is pretty
close, across the state line.

Thanks.

We camped there last year for a weeks vacation. The campgrounds are very
large with alot of very nice sites. You have several options to choose from
for sites. Some are along the lake but I think the most popular ones are
under the live oaks, probably the oldest area of the campground.

We liked the campground but got tired of having to load up beach gear and
drive to the pavallion and park, then walk down to the beach. We have an
eight year old and a three year old (boys). Needless to say by the time I
got every one and all toys, chairs, umbrellas, cooler down on the beach I
began to feel like a pack mule rather than dad on vacation.

The park is nice but I am looking for something closer to the water this
year.

AS of this year pets are allowed in Florida state parks. There is
a very nice campground near Pensacola. It is not a state park
but it is in the National Sea Shore.IT is Fort Pickens.WE live
about 50 miles away and go 2 or 3 times a year.IT is great.

Camped there last year. Considering how developed the surrounding area is,
the park was surprising in how well insulated it was from all that. Many
sites, but not all, are fairly private. Some have full hookups, others only
water & electric. Overall I'd say this is one of the better ones I've been
too and I'm pretty picky about a good campground. I will warn you though
that it can be hard to get into without reservations, even during the week.
Very popular place.

Hi There, Yes we have camped at Gulf Shores State Park many times and love it
there. They have wonderful bike trails, a beautiful golf course, and excellent
bird watching. Try and get a camp site on the lake! It is Alabama at its best.

Dear Lamar and Joan,

Thanks so much for that info! We looked into Fort Pickens and it looks perfect
:).
