Yes reservations are accepted. I think the reservation number
is 1-800-PA PARKS. We used it once now.

We live in Ohio but go to Pa. State Parks a few times a year. Starting last
year I think that all sites in all the State Parks can be reserved up to 11
months in advanced. The number to reserve is 1-888-PA-PARKS And it doesn't
cost you anything to use the reservation program. I wish Ohio had something
like this system. We spent 7 days at Laurel Hill State Park in June and
reserved our favorite site a month before. The park was only about 50 % filled
on the weekend and about 20% on the weekdays. We are thinging about going to
Pymatuning Lake (Jamestown) in western Pa. on the last weekend in July but we
have not made a reservation yet.

With a few exceptions reservations are accepted for sites at all
PA state parks by calling 1-888-PA-PARKS

You can make reservations up to 11 months in advance. No extra fee,
but they do charge your credit card when the reservation is made.

If you show up without a reservation you're supposed to call the
reservation center from the campground. If the center is closed
they usually post a list of open sites, but sometimes only those
open for that night so you run the risk of having to move if a
multi-nite stay.

Laura,

Do you live in Western PA? There is an eGroup for Western PA
campers, you probably should join it. Here it is...

Our only PA park so far has been Laurel Hill, and they took reservations.
There were still empty sites when we were there, so if you are a late
arriver I think you can go to one that's not reserved, and pay the next day.

We've also stayed at a private campground right next to Moraine state park
(Bear Run) and were able to walk around Lake Arthur, walk on the beach, hike
the trails, etc.

So far the PA state parks have been cheaper and nicer than the private
ones...
