These things are still being offered on the internet !!

Quoted from the 5/25/02 edition of the Miami Herald:

If you own a Red Devil gas grill, trash it.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers
that all 155,000 Red Devil gas grills manufactured by e4L and Quantum
North America have a design defect that allows users to light the grill at
an air intake tube, instead of the burner. Although the grill appears to
function normally, gas inside the air intake tube is burning and reaches
temperatures of up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. This damages the grill's
plastic support piece, causing the grill to collapse.

More than 1,00 consumers returned their grills to the manufacturers
because they collapsed. Forty-four people were burned on the legs,
hands, and fingers. Some had third-degree burns.

When e4L and Quantum refused to issue a recall, the CPSC sued to
obtain one. The companies didn't show up in court and declared
bankruptcy. Consumers have no way to get a refund or replacement.

If you know of any incidents with these grills, or want more information,
call the CPSC at 800-638-2772 at any time.
