We had a 1993 Rockwood model 1740 for 5 years before we traded it in for a
larger unit. It was just an eight foot box which opened to sixteen feet,
but it was very solid and we took it all over the country without any
problems.

We have a 1992 Rockwood 2360...We love it. It is sturdy and very
roomy. I doubt you will ever regret buying a Rockwood, I know we
havent!

I guess I am the of the opposite opinion on Rockwoods.

I had a Rockwood 1940, 1995 model that I absolutely hated.

Had problems with it from the first camping trip.

Door never fit right even after several trips to the dealer.

Tires wore holes in the wheelwheels.

Door kept on falling off of the roof support and eventually the
interior roof had to be replaced.

Two sections of tenting didn't fit right and had to be replaced.

One of the beds was always very difficult to open and close.

The above are only some of the problems.

Cobra industries was the manufacturer at the time that I
purchased but has since gone out of business. Forest River now
makes them.

Ironically, my wife's boss bought the same exact camper. His
sink fell out when he flipped the galley over.

My cousin purchased a new one Rockwood last year. He has not
been a happy camper with it. Lot's of water problems.

The major thing I liked about the 1940 was the layout. We tried
to find a similar layout in other brands but Rockwood only had
the plan we really liked.

We owned a 1990 Jayco for 5 years and loved it. Even took it on
a 10,000 mile trip with no problems.

Have recently purchased a 98 Coleman Mesa which I have not had a
chance to camp with yet.

Good luck

We have a 1995 Rockwood 2280 freedom series.It folds out to 21 ft.The
only problem we have had was abowed axle.I dont know if the previous
owner over loaded it or it was just weak.

But other than those little things, you really liked it right? I had a
1991 Rockwood 1004XL. The roof came off at 55 mph and completely tore
off the riser assembly going down the road. The top and A/C literally
broke into a million pieces on the highway. I'm glad no one was behind
me at the time. The clamp latches looked like they were made out of
bent tinfoil. But other than that, I really liked mine. What a piece
of crap. I bought a new Coleman Santa Fe. We hope the top stays on.

Rick, We've had a 1991 1280XL for about a year and have had it out a
couple times. My experiences so far:

I also gave up on the door. I think you need to level the trailer really
well from side-to-side as well as front-to-back for it to work.

Interior quality and finish is excellent. I think the cabinetry is some
of the best I've seen. It also adds a lot to the weight of the unit
though.

There was an earlier leak where the first owner over cranked the lifts
and separated the seam between the top panel and the vertical side panel
and it leaked. Some particle board damage and staining which I've since
taken care of. With normal maintenance I don't think this would've
occurred

I like the full size tires & wheels and it tows quite easily behind my
6-cyl Jeep. Weighs out about 2700lbs loaded. Surge brakes work fine.

I wish I had the electric water pump, the hand pump is work.

Would I buy it again? This is our third unit (one Apache, one Coleman)
and we reguarly visit the local RV shows to see whats new and I must say
there are some really nice units available, but YES. If the unit you're
interested in has been taken care of, has what you want and price is
right, Go for it.

Your right, Bob. Other than those other little things, I did
like the layout.

I do have to say that the Rockwood was as good a fighter as any
trout I have caught.

The Rockwood fought to the end. As I was cleaning her out to
take to the dealer to trade her in, she gave one last gasp and
let one of the drawer casters fall onto the floor. I just
gently picked it up and put it in the drawer.

I have a '99 1910 Freedom and it is a great unit.
The front storage unit is worth its weight in gold.

I don't own a Rockwood, but we *seriously* considered buying one
for one feature alone -- I *LOVE* that swing-through galley!!

We have a 1994 Rockwood model 2080 that is starting on its fourth
camping season with us and have had no major problems with it. The
Rockwood trailers are build here in Indiana but are not as commonally
seen in local campgrounds as are Coleman's & Jayco's. Our Rockwood
pop-up trailer was built by Cobra Industries which originated the
Rockwood name. Forest River bought them out sometime in 1995 I believe.

While I have seen at least two posting in the past on this news group
that spoke negatively about Rockwood trailers I don't remember the
poster's stating any exact reason for their negative comments. Its to
bad that Forest River does not offer a "owner's club" or some other
gimmick to help promote them better like some other manufacturers have
done.

I believe that Rockwood pop-up trailers are of a good basic design and
are as well built as others are maybe better in some ways.

I agree. We own a 1995 Premier 1908 and have taken it several trips with no
problems. We did not purchase it with an air conditioner and am pricing one
now. With the roof vent, we shouldn't have a problem installing one as is it
already wired for one.
We also welcome an questions on Rockwoods.

I have a 1995 Signature Series 1260. It is over 23' when extended. We
love it. Shower, potty, furnace, hot water heater, outside shower, 3 way
refrig. I bought it from a fellow who was trying to pull it with a 4 cyl.
Toyota pickup here in the hills of Alabama. Just too big and heavy of
camper when loaded for that size truck.

Denise:

I am upgrading my 7100 BTU Duotherm air conditioning unit to a 13500 unit. Would
you be interested in
purchasing my unit for $250 plus shipping. It was installed on my 95' Rockwood
at time of purchase. Email me if interested. (It works ok - I just want it
cooler)
