<< James,

I've had two Palomino pop-up campers. My first one was a 1988 CXL hardside
pop-up. >>

Sorry to intrude but about the hard side Palomino Pop-ups... do you mean that
instead of the canvas sides they have hard sides? I am looking for a pop up
with hard sides because my wife wont sleep in a tent or soft side pop up.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
CHUCK

We had a 97 Filly for two years. Our biggest problem was lots of condensation
inside that molded the inside of the tenting. The two piece door was never
right, and most of the storage cabinets were already "full" with poorly placed
gas lines, etc.

Other than that, it towed well and the awning was better quality (we feel) than
the Coleman awning we have on our newer Bayside.

They are less expensive around here than other brands. They also have a good
warranty.

Hello, my husband and I bought our Palomino Stallion last May and love it.
Weight was an issue for us also and we can't be happier. We loved the floor
plan and the colours inside, we love everything about our Palomino. We are
from Canada and can't wait until the summer to use it again.

ups? My wife doesnt want a canvas pop up.
Thank you

We bought a used Palomino Philly it is over 3 years old and we have camped
many times and pulled it hundreds of miles over last two years. We have not
had any major problems and the floor plan is the best of any we looked at.
We pull it with an Aerostar without any problems.

According to their 2000 brochure, Palomino has several models that
have a dry weight under 2000#, but they don't list the maximum weight.
Assuming 300# or less of water, propane & cargo, there would be about
7 models that fit your requirements. Their listed maximum dry weight
is 2275 for the largest Slide model.

They have 22 different models but I find their floorplans to be
uninspired. For example, in their Slide series they show 6 models, but
they are all the same floorplan. The only differences between the 6 is
whether or not it has a front trunk or not and whether it has the
cassete toilet/shower or not. The Mustang & Yearling series are done
the same way with just a couple floor plans and then "options" are
used to expand the choices. If one of the floor plans happens to meet
your needs then great for you.

You can request a brochure via their website:

Gee, Chuck, you're not intruding! AFAIK, all popups have soft, canvas-y bed
ends that you pull out, except for Chalet and Aliner (but then again, they
don't have bed ends that you pull out!)

Some do have the hard sides above the box of the popup. Palomino makes one,
and I don't know who else.

If you are not afraid of an older model, many of the Apache campers were hard
sides including the bunk ends.

Hi Bob,
I am not afraid of the older pop ups. Actually that is what we're looking for
now. the Apache. Know of anyone in Phila PA area who has one for sale?
If I could find a Palomino with all hard sides I'd be interested in it too.
Thanks

Now Linda... clarify that with all NEW popups... :)
-
My '79 Apache Royal is *all* hard sided. The two sides hinge up as you crank
up the top, then you pull the bunks out and the end panel and roof are hinged
together and the roof section fastens to the *main* roof. Then the side hinge
upward and slide into a groove in the bunk roof and end panel. No canvas on
this popup! Lots of canvas on the dining canopy and one tent (the other tents
are nylon or whatever they make tents from now-a-days).
-
Of course the Apache isn't made anymore... :(

We also had a 1990 Palimino TXL hardside. Ours had a Ref. Hot Water,
Shower, Casette Toliet, Furance, Awing and weighed in at just under 2000
lbs dry. Sold it this past fall to move up to a TT. I believe Colemen,
and Rockwood also made hardsided pop-up in the early to mid 90's. Try doing
a nationwide search for Palimino, Rockwood etc. @ traderonline.com to get
a idea as to whats for sale now.

In article <38B200F6...@nospamat2home.com>,
WE bought our first Pop up last July (99 palomino Mustang). WE are
extremely happy with ours. Lots of room for the 5 of us.. We would have
had to pay about $1500 to $2000 more to get the same thing in most
other well know brands. For us we got a pretty much loaded trailer
(hotwater, fridge, furnace, air) that is lightweight and all at an
affordable price. What more could you ask for.

When you say "hard side" do you mean no canvas, just all hard sides including
the sleep area sides? I am looking for a totally hard pop up. So far I have
found that Apache's are the only ones out there. If there are others I would
like to know so I can check them out too.
Thank

There's a small hard-sided camper available called A-Liner, can be seen at
http://www.aliner.com
They are located in Mammoth, PA but I don't think that's too close to
Philly.

You're absolutely right David. I meant "new" popups, but neglected to specify
that.
