I've found that I can make even Pink Floyd sound awful and agreements to
turn down the systems are quickly negotiated.

Here's a thought. If you are like me and agrivated by brainless nitwits
that think it's cool to share nasty ass THUMP...THUMP...THUMP...Crap in
town traffic.
Or even in your own neighbor hood. Disturbing the hell out of our peace
and quiet. Then how about we do this. We all get one of these 120
decibal delights:
Then when we hear the crud we just blast out our own version of Crudola
back with an answer. Then if they complain or ask why....just say that
you are a lover of boat horn music!

There is no 'reasonable' volume for an outdoors entertainment system. I do
not want to listen to your music/sports/talk shows any more than you want to
listen to mine. Campgrounds are somewhat crowded places. I do not mind the
natural (reasonable) sounds of you and your family (including normal pet
sounds), but I also want to enjoy the sounds of nature. If you want to
listen to music outdoors at a campground, use headphones. Try an Ipod or
other similar device. Listen to whatever you want, but do not subject me to
it, loud or not.
> "Sound systems don't disturb; morons do."
Yep!
absolutely! think about it - you are playing your music at a reasonable
level in your campsite.
The person next to you has to listen to it - because if you can hear it,
chances are someone 20 feet away can also hear it. Then think about the
campers on the other side of that person - they are also listening to
something at a reasonable level.
Person in the middle gets to listen to two different musical genres
simultaneiously. Lucky them!
Outdoor radios/TVs/ etc have no place in a CG or RV Park.

ARGH! That's outstanding! I may have to buy it and just keep it on the
camper for emergency use! Hehehehehe! :)

Not bad. "If you don't turn down your music, you can't have any peace and
quiet! How can you have any peace and quiet if you don't turn down your
music?" (With apologies to Roger Waters)
Another good suggestion would be "Revolution 9" from The Beatles white album
(number 9...number 9...number 9...ad nauseum).
Outdoor loudspeakers on a camper. I must agree: A HORRIBLE invention.
:(

> Outdoor radios/TVs/ etc have no place in a CG or RV Park.
Agreed.
In any case, it's a moot point for me: I just *LOVE* my iPod. It has ALL my
music onboard with space left over for all my photos - and disturbs NO ONE.
:)

There's a way to discourage the sound abuse by use of directional speakers,
i.e., put your own sound only in a limited area, focused on a specific small
area (direct that yodeler at the abuser). Here's a supplier:

"only those within the sound beam can hear the audio..."

I wonder if it would work for stereos too?

In this case by the time you got close enough for an IR transmitter to
control their set I think it's going to be just a bit obvious WHO turned
it off!!!!

It would be nice if the manufacturers made a more powerful version -
which could be done, all it would take is a few more LED's - so that
you could turn off TV's from 100 feet.

We have surround sound in our Travel trailer... (inside)
My wife likes to have music in the trailer, I don't.. I can't hear it outside
the trailer, so it's not a big deal.. I spend most of my time outside anyway..
As others have said, I camp (ok, RV now) to get away from "normal" life... I can
listen to the stereo at home..
OTOH, I've seen a huge motor home with outside stereo playing at very low volume
while a group of tent campers at the other end were seeing whose boom box could
make the most noise..
I find it really strange that in most other outdoor activities, (fishing,
hunting, hiking, etc.), the same folks that would be rude, loud, or steal your
hub caps at home would share their last piece of fishing bait with you when away
from home... but this doesn't seem to apply to campers and RV'ers... rude at
home means rude at a park... YMMV

It travels behind the drivers seat in my pickup, with a sleeping bag
around it to keep it from moving. I also take a progressive scan
DVD player and an assortment of DVD movies to choose from.
Makes traveling a lot more fun when it gets dark and it is time to
go inside. This would also make getting stuck inside during a
rain shower much easier to take.
damn... how much power does it take to run all that, Mark?
oh, ok... most popup folks don't hit full hookups very often... I was picturing
a honda generator to power the entertainment center..
now that we have our TT, we haven't "dry camped" since we got it in Nov. 03..
lol
I use my pop-up just like I would if I had a travel trailer. It has a
14 foot long box and a slide-out dining area so it is fairly big.
I have a 3.5 cu ft fridge and a 3 burner stove with an oven.
I also have a built-in microwave and a built-in AM/FM CD stereo.
But I can certianly see how you think this invention is evil. I'll probably
sell my TH this weekend to get the evil out of my yard.
Thanks for pointing this out to me before I wreck some retirees life in a
state park.

Don't mention it. And while yer at it, take those whining screaming kids
with you. And that yappy dog. And that shrill voiced shrew you call a
wife. And those noisy machines you ride through camp. And that thumper
music box you have in your truck.
OH, my! I just realized. If you dump the toy hauler, the whole bunch will
stay at home in the burbs and bother the neighbors.
Never mind!
Steve
No kids. Dogs don't bark unless there is a chukar partridge in the
vacinity. Only time I ride my ATVs inside of camp is when I am boondocking
with other ATVers...never inside a park. Truck has an AM radio with no
speakers hooked up.
Sorry...but it's just those damned speakers on the outside of the TH and my
wife's voice that could potentially bother other campers so I guess I'll
have to ditch them.
Bummer...cuz I was really starting to enjoy the wife's company. And the bed
in the TH was just starting to get broke in right.

Nate... first of all, if more folks did what you do ( "I rarely play them any
louder than I need to be able to hear them right there by my door step".), it
wouldn't be a problem...
Also, for a TH, it might be QUIETER with external speakers.... we've noticed
that toy haulers, when empty and used as a "patio", tend to focus and aim the
noise toward where ever the back is pointing... a really strange effect when
you're not in line of the door and can't understand why the guy in the next site
is bitching about the noise.. *lol*

Hah! Now yer tryin to tell us you don't snore.

Maybe I'll try some patsy cline or hank williams on my (c)rap blasting
neighbor..

or better yet get a set of pipes for your own amusment.
Actually when we were down at Huntington Beach in SC there was a lone piper
there that would practice at dusk. He would draw a crowd every evening.
I once heard that if you want to keep the sites around yours empty, just
place a tuba on the picnic table.

A set of bagpipes works better and packs better, too!
Once when tent camping, my (then) wife was putting up with my snoring.
She woke me when she heard the people in the next tent complaining
about it.
we went on a trip with a friend who REALLY snores... we were on one side of his
trailer and a family in a 5th wheel was on the other side..
When we woke up the next morning, the 5'er was moved down 3 spaces.. lol
