Hello all.

What product do you recommend to waterproof the canvas on my older pop-up? I
saw some canvas waterproofer at the store but it was a bit pricey. It was
also a wax based product. Is this what I should be using? They also had some
silicone based stuff that seemed to be meant for light tents. Any brand name
recommendations?

Take the one that is made for Canvass... I did mine a few years ago wiht Canvass
Waterproof product that I bought at my RV shop (I think it was branded "Camping
World"). I don't recall if it was wax based, but I know I had to apply it with a
brush.

Hi Andrew;

When I used to do our canvas tents I used Thompsons Water Seal. I've had
good results. My best;

I used Scotchguard on our previous Popup that had canvas. Economical
and worked great. Apply it in light coats and allow to fully dry before
closing up the camper.

I think they have quit making Scotchguard.

If you notice in that story the Heavy Duty Water Repellant isn't affected I
used that a couple years ago and it works great and it should still be
available...

I bought some cans of *something* at Walmart this
year....can't remember the name of it but it came from
the camping section (was not Scotchguard, though).....it
was a tenting waterproof and it worked great on my '87
Columbia's original canvas. It wasn't leaking badly
before but now it's great. I sprayed the seams well and
let it dry thoroughly. Even in a heavy rain last month
it was dry as a bone in there.
BTW, Walmart also has a spray specifically for seams to
waterproof them, but the regular stuff worked fine for
me.

Risa, wishing she was off camping in the 80 degree NC
weather today!

Andrew;
Last year for our trailers' 5th yr Birthday, I spent hours cleaning,
scrubbing, waterproofing and polishing it. On the Sunbrella canvas, I used
the Coleman recommended '303 High Tech Fabric Guard' that I purchased at our
favorite Coleman Dealer for refreshing of the waterproofing.

On our old, beat-up canvas pontoon boat cover, and on our shoes ... I use
"KIWI Camp Dry, Heavy Duty Water Repellent" spray, that I purchased at my
local Jewel/Osco grocery store in the shoe polish section. (Right on the
front of the spray can it says it can be used on tents/tarps for maximum
water protection.) You can probably find this cheaper at Wally World or
any of the big discount chain stores. This stuff works great on Gym Shoes,
they never get wet inside anymore when we wear them in the rain. It also
worked great on my winter boots for waterproofing. I would highly recommend
it.

So far, we're very pleased with the performance of both the '303 High Tech
Fabric Guard' the 'Kiwi Camp Dry, Heavy Duty Water Repellent.'
