Well, I finally found out for sure that Skamper did totally dissolve and that
Dutchmen only picked up their name for one fold-down. The guy at Dutchmen
told me that Skamper left hardly anything, so getting any parts or info on
older Skamper trailers is probably a venture in salvage shopping.

My question is, can anyone give me any weight information on the older Skamper
trailers. I have mine up on blocks right now, or I guess I could take it
somewhere (not sure where - maybe the truck scales?) to have it weighed.
Particularly, I have a 1970 6D trailer. From my experience with it, trying to
roll it around, etc., I'd say it weighs about the same as my ext. cab, longbed
Ford pickup - just kidding. But it is darn heavy - why couldn't they use any
lightweight plastics 28 years ago?? The tongue weight alone has got to be
around 200 lbs.

Any information on my trailer or where I can find any Skamper parts would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan Crisp

I, too, have a Skamper Tent Trailer, a 1988 245. Almost every basic part on
the trailer is stock, and any good RV store can help you out. The only
really unique item would be the lift mechanism. But again, unless you go
through a hurricane, most working parts ar obtainable.

As for weight, hook it up and go to a truck scales. And do it fully loaded,
you have an idea how much it really weighs. Good Luck

Peace

Depends, yes it can be fixed, but depends on how handy you are.
Have to raise the roof manually, and prop it up.
If you are lucky, the supports can be removed to allow access to the
cable/pulley system.

Sometimes, the cables are accessible from underneath.

REPLACE all the cables, and verify the pulleys are in good working
order, as you will have to do it all over again if they break.
