My wife and I will be traveling to Myrtle Beach onto Washington DC
onto New York to visit the Statue of Liberty then to Boston and
finally to the coast of Maine. (WHEW) We are looking for
recommendations for camping in these areas from all of you
knowledgable campers out there. We prefer state parks but private
parks are also welcomed.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you

I have several Maine Campground reviews on my website:

http://www.thatscamping.com/maine.html

and I believe there is a review or two on camps near Boston (Normandy Farms
in Foxboro is about 30 to 40 minutes from Boston) on the massachusetts page.

http://www.thatscamping.com/mass.html

good luck and have a great time on your trip! You have picked some great
states to visit!

Depending on length of stay, Ocean Lakes Campground is real good (4 day min.
during peak vacation) or Myrtle Beach State park.

Cherry Stone, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, North of Norfolk is a very
good one. On the West side of the bay, Williamsburg Colonial KOA is a very
nice (the first one of the two on the road, which are connected btw...)
Also stayed at Cherry Hill outside washington DC. Little noisy with 2
interstates near the back of it tho.......

It's definately nice, with lot's of things to do, but also very pricey...
Kiptopeke State Park is much cheaper, has full hook-ups including
cable TV, and about the same area!

PirateLand and Lakewood are very much like Ocean Lakes (all in Myrtle Beach).
They are very big commercial camping resorts. Some sites are located "close"
to the beach. The dunes keep you from actually having a beach view site.
These sites have no shade. All of PirateLand's "beach" sites come with covered
picnic shelters. Their other sites (all three resorts) are in more shaded
areas, but they are a longer walk to the beach (unless you rent one of the ever
popular and very abundant golf carts). These resorts have well over 800+
sites. They also have pools, game rooms, snack bars, camp stores and such.
You never have to leave the campground if you don't want to. I believe
Lakewood even has a show that they put on several nights of the week. They are
religious oriented, but they do not force their religion on you if you are not
so inclined. The rates for these resorts will run you around $38 a night
during the peak season.

Shootin' Yankees is fun, but camping is more fun! 8^)
