I am very close to buying a new 2000 Viking Saga 1906 Pop-Up. Anyone
out there have any experiences- positive or negative with Viking? Any
thoughts would be appreciated. By the way, this camper is replacing a
1968 Wheel Camper pop-up we bought from the original owner 4 years ago.

Thanks..Mike

Hi Mike, try to look at a few different brands before buying. We looked at the
Viking, Starcraft, and Coleman trailers and wound up getting a Coleman. The new
Vikings were very nice inside I have to admit!

We looked at Vikings last May when we were shopping. I liked the floor plans,
but they are way too expensive around here (more than our Coleman).

Specific complaint: their guarantee.

We have a Viking 2000 2485ST that we are very happy with. We have not taken
it out yet, but are planning our first trip for next weekend.

We made our decision based upon comfort, quality, as well as a good
experience with the dealer here in Atlanta Georgia (RV World).

My thoughts are look at the floor plan and buy what fits your needs. I would
take a look at the 2107ST as well however as this includes the storage bin
in front which both my wife and I have found irreplaceable in planning out
where to put things in our trailer.

What we did was set it up in our drive way and try out different boxes to
fit into the bins. We went to different stores looking for boxes and finally
found the combination we needed at Target.

Thanks all for your input. I did order the 1906. Next Friday, I get to
pickit up! It can't come soon enough! I went to a local camper show and
after looking at all the big brands, we decided that for the money and
features, the Viking was for us. Keep any input coming...

Mike,

When I was shopping I also found the Viking to be a good camper for the
price. There were a lot of things that I liked about there campers. The
ones we looked at had a Care Free of Colorado awning, very nice. Their
slideouts looked realy nice. The BIG reason we didn't go with one was
the Warranty. I wanted a lifetime on the roof. I also wanted a model
that did not require maintenane on the roof seams to keep the warranty
valid. This left only Coleman, which were quite a bit more around here,
but I really liked the roof among other things.

If not for the Warranty I would have most likely bought the Viking.

Mike,

I have a 1995 Viking that I bought 1 year ago. We love it, except that
a lift arm cable broke when I was cranking it down last Fall. A call
to the local dealer got me a $500 estimate (to replace the entire lift
system - the only option they would give me.) I called a less-local
place, and they told me it could be around $20.00 for the cable, plus 2-
3 hrs labor @$55.00/hr. Of course, if yours is new, anything like that
will be under warranty.

The only thing I didn't like about mine is the wimpy sink faucet. It
is supposedly designed to pump from the tank, or just open up the city
water valve. I never used it with the tank, and it wouldn't work with
the city water. Since I don't anticipate having to use the tank (if
you're going to "rough it," use a bag or a jug!) i threw the
nonfunctioning wad of plastic away, and installed the cheapest faucet I
could find at the home center. Yours may be made differently. If you
go the route I did and install a 2 handle faucet, make sure you plug
the side you're not using, or you will flood the area below the sink
when you turn on the water!

Like any other vehicle, watch your weight distribution towing
with the Wrangler. I use my 98 Wrangler to tow a 1500lb
Starcraft and it does fine. I really like the 5 sp manual on
steep downgrades as opposed to an automatic. I really don't
need the electric brakes except for panic stops, but they are
nice to have when you need them. If you don't have stiff shocks
on the rearend you may notice a substantial drop when the tongue
weight is applied. I have the factory high pressure off-road
shocks (very stiff) and the rearend still dips an inch or so but
the ride is just right. I'd recommend adjustable Rancho RS9000s
if you need to upgrade shocks. The next best thing to having a
Jeep is a pop-up. Congratulations and enjoy them both.

We bought our '95 Viking new from the dealer and have
been happy with the decision ever since. We've used
it just a ton with very few problems.

Thanks again for the input, all. MC, you are right after my heart-not
only a pop-up person, but also a jeeper. I am aware of theh concerns of
towing w/ a Wrangler, as we have used ours to tow our old pop-up. Among
other areas we went camping with the jeep/camper combo were Glacier
Nat'l Park and The Canadian Rockies-Banff area. The Jeep handled teh
steep inclines and altitude, while towing, like a trooper!

Hi Mike,

When we were looking for a camper we looked at Vikings. I remember I
cut my finger on a sharp piece of aluminum when I went to open the door
from the inside.

I took it as a sign and we walked away from there.

They may be great campers though. If you like it get it.

We just bought a '99 Viking 2470ST, we've used it twice now, no problems and it
was quite a bit less expensive than some of the other manufactures and a better
floorplan (for us).

Glacier NP, Banff,... the Canadian Rockies. I envy your travels.
We live in the Arizona and pull our Starcraft to destinations in
California, Nevada, Utah, and all over our home state. But
family size dictates the Wrangler be used only for solo or
part-family camping. Even at that it gets in its fair shair of
towing every year.

Wait! I thought you said it was a Jeep - not an Isuzu!

Hello again all. Well I picked up the Viking on Friday. I have since
brought it home and set it up/knocked it down 2 times. At this point, I
am happy with the method of opening/closing and the operation of the
accessories ( stove, fridge, furnace, carefree awning, etc) I can't
wait to get out in it. I am in Chicago, so it won't probably be until
late March or early April, so until then, I'll ahve to remain satisfied
playing with it in my garage and getting all our gear our of our old
camper and setting this one up to our liking.

Go for it! We camped last weekend in southern Wisconsin and stayed
toasty warm with the furnace running only at night. Took lots of
books and hot tea and hot food in case it was too cold to be outside,
but the weather was beautiful. We had to open the windows!
