Any suggestions for camping locations near and around Mt. Rushmore? Would
prefer Electric and Water hookups. Are reservations needed? Are there any
lakes around there?
Thank you for your suggestions.

The Mt. Rushmore KOA (Palmer Gulch) near Hill City is a Really nice campground.
Full hook ups. Water electric, store, game room for kids, adult lounge,
horseback riding also -- I think? (You have to take hwy. 16 to Hill City and
double back towards Mt. Rushmore to avoid steep grades but its not far out of
the way and it's in the middle of everything once your settled in.)

Sylvan lake is a mountain lake on the needles highway and has a great walking
trail around it. As far as recreational, theres a nice reservoir, state park &
visitors center. 5-10 miles north of Hill City. I can't remember the name but
you can't miss it.

Have a nice trip!

In article <19990713003542...@ng-cf1.aol.com>,
Rafter J Bar Ranch in Hill City is very nice. Stayed there last month
after others on this ng suggested it. Reservations depend on the time of
year. We were there in early June and called the day before and were
able to get a site for several days. In July and August I would make
reservations before I went. There are several lakes in Custer State Park
not far from the Mt Rushmore area. Beautiful park well worth visiting.
Enjoy!

If you are planning a trip to the Black Hills in early August -- be warned.
During the first two weeks of August the Black Hills fill with around
200-300,000 bikers for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Rooms and Camp sites go
for a premium and there are not many to be found.

Crooked Creek Resort about two miles South of Hill City. Pull through
RV sites with full hookups. <http://www.rapidnet.com/~gs/home.htm>
