I will be traveling to visit the Trinity site on the White Sands
Missile Range in late March and would appreciate any input from those
of you who might have camped at any campgrounds near there or along the
way. I am considering these based my on route: Bottomless lakes state
park (near Roswell), Valley of the Fires(near Carrizozo), and anything
in the Lincoln national forest between Ruidoso and Carrizozo. Any
other input about this area for late March would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Bottomless Lakes is too far away.

Valley of Fires is now run by BLM, so look for information from
them. The campsites are pretty nice, with shades over the picnic
tables, IIRC, but there are few trees other than a few
pinyon/junipers. I remember flush toilets, but don't remember
whether there are showers or not, and I think there's a dump
station if you need one.

The lava beds are impressive. If you hike there, wear sunscreen
everywhere you have exposed skin (think of sunburned nostrils)
and wear sturdy but old hiking boots and leather palmed work
gloves, as lava is rough stuff.

I presume you're planning to join one of the caravans into
Trinity Site. The National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque has
information about where to gather, but I don't know much except
that one gathering place used to be Alamogordo. I do know that
Stallion Gate is much closer to Socorro (which might be a
gathering place) than to Carrizozo, so you might want to search
for an RV park over there as well.

Don't know how long you're planning on staying in the various
areas. Bottomless Lakes is a bit far from Roswell but I felt it
was well worth the trip.

It's a beautiful park with great sites and very nice
facilities. We were there last summer and thoroughly enjoyed
it. My only regret was that we didn't stay longer. It was just
an overnight stop for us on our way to Santa Fe.

If you go, don't miss the UFO museum. You have to go just so
you can say you did!

Have fun!
