Hi Group
My wife and I are talking about spending a few days camping in New
Hampshire this summer. Can you all give me you suggestions as to the best
places you have stayed. If you look at the camping guide every campground
in the book looks good.

Thank you

Danforth Bay (http://www.danforthbay.com/) was nice -- nice sandy beach
where we swam and canoed. Excellent store and amenities. Heated pool (but
we didn't use it). Cool thing was that there is a stream that winds through
the sites. The kids played in and around it while we set up, prepared
meals, etc. Lots of security presence meant a quiet week for us. And on a
rainy day, we were able to play inside their rec center (tv, ping pong,
video games).

Moose Hillock (http://www.moosehillock.com/) has a heated pool too -- and we
used it. A lot ;-)

Danforth Bay is near Storyland (<1hr) and North Conway, and Moose Hillock is
nearer Lincoln and Santa's Village.

Lenny; My wife and I plan on trying both of the CG's that you recommended
this summer. We did drive through Danforth Bay while on our way to North
Conway in December to do some Christmas shopping. It has also been
recommended to us by 3-4 other people as a good choice. I like the sites
near the lake. Howard Page,Seabrook,NH By chance is that also your
hometown. If so I've met you some years ago? I work as a cop in Seabrook

Moose Hillock is one of our choices for this coming summer (it will be our
1st time there). And as a boy, I went to Danforth Bay for several trips,
back when it was called Shawtown. It was nice back 25 years ago, and I
understand the new owners have put a lot of work into it.

Not New Hampshire, but if you are into traditional music, the National
Folk
Festival is in Bangor, Maine August 27-29, 2004. The main parking area for
the
festival is Bass Park, which has full hookups available fairly inexpensively.
Since
those hookups are mostly used by the horse people when there is a race there,
they don't advertise. All of downtown Bangor is a short bicycle ride away.

I've lived in NH all my life, and I just can't find a bad State Park.
I just recently got into my first PU, and I've dragged it to Franconia
Notch state park, at the "RV Park" for winter camping - EXCELLENT
TIME! 3 way hook ups in the summer, just AC and sewer in the winter.

My other PU state park experience was White Lake state park. They are
dry camping only, but still a very nice campground, if you can get a
site, goto "camp ground 3."

I know Lake Francis has water at the sites, and Umbagog has
electricity and water.

have fun.

OMG! I hope you weren't there last week ;-) Tell me what people do in FN
in the winter and how comfortable it was in your PU. I love the winter, but
that can't be EXCELLENT!

I've read somewhere that you have to be careful of your pop ups windows in
the freezing cold because the plastic will crack. Did you notice any
problems?

my favorite places to camp in NH are (in no particular order):

moose hillock
crazy horse (just outside of littleton)
hillcrest (between concord & epsom on route 4)
angle pond (east hampstead)

in Maine:

kings & queens court (w. lebanon, ME - just over the NH border near Rochester)
chewonki (wiscasset)

Tell me a little about Angle Pond -- it's ten minutes from my house.

I run a 1972 Starcraft Starmaster 6. with original windows.

I saw absolutely no problem with the windows. I wasn't there last
weekend, it was back in November, but up there it still got down to 10
deg F at night. Before I collapsed for the ride home, I ran the Mr.
Heater to warm the windows slightly so they would fold down easier.

There aren't many sites available for "transient" campers. They're sort of
small & close together.

BUT - the people who camp there (and who run the place) are very nice. The
swimming beach is very large & very clean. There's a small camp store, a snack
bar/dance place. The showers and bathrooms are centrally located, and always
clean.

I haven't been there for a couple of years, so I don't know how much it's
changed.

Hope this helps
