Posted here is the most recent version of the themes/updates list that
has been uploaded here in past weeks, which now includes bumper music.
Megadittos to everyone who has contributed and helped make this the #1
most requested file in the CompuServe "Limbaugh Library"! Neat, huh?
[Regrettably, all the access counts are not preserved, due to the
various editions, but my cumulative count now shows 1,470+ accesses!]

If there are any corrections or additions that need to be done,
cooperation of EIB listeners (especially those who have listened for more
than a year) from across the fruited plain is appreciated. Reply to either
address posted below. If possible, please use an authoritative source to
confirm the performers/composers in your contributions.

Obscure update themes which are of historical interest, particularly those
which are about particular people, and the circumstances of the time
they aired, are especially appreciated.

Without further ado, from the "grooveyard of forgotten favorites," here's

RUSH LIMBAUGH: THE 'HIT' LIST

compiled and edited by Ken Barnes
(7532...@compuserve.com,
KEBA...@msuvx1.memst.edu)

EIB Network Theme:
"My City Was Gone" performed by The Pretenders
from the album LEARNING TO CRAWL

UPDATE THEMES:

Peace Update:
"Una Paloma Blanca" sung by Slim Whitman
("One White Dove," a little Spanish lingo, there)
the very first update, tweaking the unilateral
disarmament/peace/nuclear freeze movement

Animal Rights Update:
"Born Free" performed by Andy Williams
w/ added sound effects, and occasional additional
lyrics in the chorus by Rush: "...EAT BEEF...
for beef is de-li-cious ...beef is nu-tri-tious...."
to tweak the veggies out there
Also, TV theme from "Flipper" if the story is about dolphins

Feminist Update:
Originally "Born A Woman"
(containing lyrics "If you're born a woman, you're born to be
hurt...") performed by Sandy Posey+
Rush often clarified the chorus: "That's_hurt_... not_heard_..."
Briefly "Maybe I Mean Yes" performed by Holly Dunn
from the album MILESTONES: GREATEST HITS (yes, an 'instant' greatest hit)
during the flap about her song allegedly encouraging "date rape"
Currently "Men" performed by The Forester Sisters*
from the album TALKIN' 'BOUT MEN
with added soundbites sampled from a May? 1992 Washington D.C.
NOW/pro-choice rally: "We're FIERCE... we're
FEMINISTS... and we're IN YOUR FACE!"

+Information supplied by Joseph Dougherty (jdo...@unf6.cis.unf.edu)
*Information confirmed by Bob Chang (76427...@compuserve.com)

Homeless Update:
"Ain't Got No Home" performed by
Clarence 'Frogman' Henry

Dallas Hays (71664...@compuserve.com), who is an invaluable music resource
for the 'Hit' List, says that the Frogman's original release (probably the
single that Rush received in the mail) is Argo #5259, from Nov. 1956. It is
collected on the Rhino CD THE BEST OF NEW ORLEANS RHYTHM & BLUES VOL. 2.
Mike Phillips (71045...@compuserve.com) reports that "Ain't Got No Home"
is also available on the "FOOTSTOMPIN' OLDIES" CD from Dunhill.
Trivia: John Switzer (74076...@compuserve.com | j...@netcom.com) reports
that "Ain't Got No Home" was featured in the 1987 teen vampire film
"The Lost Boys"! (One of the Coreys sang it in the bathtub.) Confirmed by
Steve Tilson (sd...@curry.edschool.Virginia.EDU).

P.C. ("Political Cleansing") Update:
"Imperial March" composed by John Williams
from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK soundtrack
The left-wing thought police are on the march, out of academia and
into the seats of power, so watch out. Big Bubba is WATCHING YOU.
(Linguistic note: the charming Southern name Bubba is derived from
the baby-talk pronunciation of the word "brother." How 'bout that, y'all?)

Condom Update:
"Up, Up, And Away (In My Beautiful Balloon)"
performed by The 5th Dimension

(Retired pathological) Dr. Jack "The Dripper" Kervorkian/Death Update:
Was "The End" by The Doors (edited)
from the album THE DOORS
Currently "And When I Die" by Blood, Sweat & Tears*
from the album BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS

*Thanks to Don Wiggins (wig...@osiris.cso.uiuc.edu) and David
Budd (bu...@playfair.stanford.edu) for identifying the title/artist.

Please confirm, or it gets dropped from the list.

*Information courtesy of Tracy Atteberry
(atte...@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu)

Spotted Owl/Timber Update:
Was "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"?+ performed by
The C. Norman Ensemble of The First Baptist Church Of
Crown Heights, Brooklyn?#
Currently "The Lumberjack" by Jackyl*
off the album JACKYL
(both with added sound effects of trees falling, chainsaws,
and loggers yelling "TIMBERRRRRRR!!!!")

+ Thanks to Brad D. Clark (cl...@brahms.amd.com) for the
additional title. Confirmations/corrections wanted.
# Dallas Hays (see above) says that this uptempo cover of the
Steam original is available on the Rhino CD BASEBALL'S
GREATEST HITS II, and as Rush_was_in baseball, and_is_in
New York, I think we've got our answer.
* Confirmed by David Lovely (dlo...@meaddata.com)
and Ron Dippold (rdip...@cancun.qualcom.com). Thanks
to Chris Morris (MORRI...@iscsvax.uni.edu) for supplying the
eponymous album title.

Dan's Bake Sale Update (1993):
"Bakin' Cookies" takeoff on "Makin' Whoopee"
sung by bluesy growling Cookie Monster soundalike
(with narration by Johnny Donovan)

Promoting the bake sale organized May 22, 1993 in Ft. Collins, CO
to help buy Dan Kay a subscription to the Limbaugh Letter
since his wife wouldn't let him use the family's money.
Dan got his subscription, and a good time was had by all.

* Information provided by T. Atteberry (see above)

Science Update:
"She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby (what else?)
off the album THE GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS
for Rush's amusing and confusing forays into pop science journalism
(Jeremy Rifkin and V.P. AlGore beware! "Dr." Rush_is_equal time!)

Sexual Harassment Update:
"My Eyes Adored You" performed by Frankie Valli
(w/o the Four Seasons)
Rush often sings along with the chorus: "My hands explored you...
though I never set my eye on you, my hands explored you..." to tweak
the radical feminists who insist on labeling any heterosexual behavior
as men trying to exploit "the inequities of power" (cf. Catherine MacKinnon)

Dittos to Chris Blaney (73157...@compuserve.com) for Rush's lyrics

Women In The Locker Room Update*:
"Where The Boys Are" sung by Connie Francis

for the confirmation.

Native American Update:
"Indian Reservation (The Lament Of A
Cherokee Reservation Indian)" performed by
Paul Revere And The Raiders Featuring Mark Lindsay*
off the album INDIAN RESERVATION
w/ added sound effects of war whoops and drumbeats,
along with soundbite samples from Atlanta Braves crowd noise?
aired during brief controversy fomented by Russell Means and
various "Indian civil rights leaders" over the Braves' fans'
"tomahawk chop" and the names of certain sports teams

*Thanks to Angelia Sparrow (aspa...@cs.umr.edu)
for providing the name of the artist, and Brad D. Clark (see above)
for the confirmation/correction.

President Slick (White Guy) Willie (Taxes) Update:
Was "Pressure" by Billy Joel
from the album THE NYLON CURTAIN
Now "Liar, Liar"* performed by The Castaways
off the GOOD MORNING VIETNAM soundtrack (irony there, Rush?)
including the infamous "I will not raise taxes on the middle class
...to pay for my programs" soundbite from the Lansing, MI debate

*Thanks to Brad D. Clark (see above) for reporting the theme,
Kenneth Twining (7130...@compuserve.com) for the artist name,
and Chris Summers (71212...@compuserve.com) for confirmation
and further information about the update.
(KB's suggested slow tempo alternate: "Behind Blue Eyes"
by The Who, off the album WHO'S NEXT. Vicious-- but it fits.)

"Mrs. Bill Clinton" Update:
Was "Hail To The Chief" accompanied by a soundbite sample of Hillary
cackling in response to a question about what she thinks of Rush,
Now "Maneater" performed by Hall & Oates*
off the album H2O

*Dittos to Craig Edward Smith (csm...@cis.ohio-state.edu) for reporting

(HHS is the Department of Health and Human Services, for those of
you in Rio Linda. She's part of the "cabinet that ***ks like America.")

*Thanks to Colette Marine (c...@nmu.edu), Gregory Halbrook
(g...@iti.org), and EIB historian (nay, valedictorian) John Switzer
for reporting this update. Y'all look like America.
+ Dittos to Greg Trotter (gr...@gallifrey.ucs.uoknor.edu) et. al.
for the UNPLUGGED correction.

Slick Willie Campaign Update:
"Charming Billy" by Johnny Preston*

*Information contributed by J. Switzer (see above)

(Infomercial boss) Ross Perot (Campaign) Update (1992 and beyond):
"When Johnny Comes Marching Home" composed by ? Gilmore
two tempos, depending on Ross' success as a candidate,
the slow tempo version is alleged to be from the
DOCTOR STRANGELOVE soundtrack
Also, the [TV theme from "Secret Agent" followed by the]*
James Bond 007 theme was used at times, in the "Perotnoia"
version of the update, because Rush thought Perot would
be a classic James Bond villain, and, I suppose, because of
(V.P. candidate) Admiral Stockdale's first two names,
James... Bond...

*Information in brackets provided by J. Switzer (see above),
Ken Nicholas (Ken=Nicholas%Sys=Dev%Sys=H...@bangate.compaq.com)
[Jeez, what an address!] reports that "Secret Agent" is by Johnny Rivers

"The Impossible Dream (The Quest)" sung by Ethel Merman?
from the musical MAN OF LA MANCHA
back when President Bush's approval was at a record high

(Former CA Gov.) Jerry Brown* Campaign? Update (1992):
"You're No Good" performed by Linda Ronstadt
off the album HEART LIKE A WHEEL
Seems Gov. Moonbeam and Ms. Ronstadt were a item for a while,
so where_else_could Rush turn for a theme? Dial 1-800-JERRY'S EX!

* thanks to Kurt Ludwick (kel...@psuvm.psu.edu) of the Memory
Division of the LIFACS for recalling who this was the theme for.
[That's Limbaugh Institute For Advanced Conservative Studies,

(Sen.) Ted Kennedy Update:
"The Philanderer" performed by a Teddy K soundalike
to the tune of Dion's 1962 hit "The Wanderer"
also, "Kenne-day-o" performed by a Harry Belafonte soundalike
to the tune of 1956 hit "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)" during the
Palm Beach rape trial of Teddy's nephew William K. Smith
Also, "Use Their Wealth" to the tune of "I Touch Myself"
by the Divines*

*Dittos to Kimberlee Titus (KTI...@uoft02.utoledo.edu) for reminding me
of this one. Confirmations of its use in an Update would be appreciated.

(N.Y. Gov. and_not_Mr. Justice) Mario "Coomo" Update:
(as pronounced by The REVEREND Jackson)
Originally "Jesus Christ Superstar" theme+
composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber
from the musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
Subsequently "I Put A Spell On You" performed by Screamin' Jay Hawkins*
referencing Cuomo's nominating speech at the 1984? DNC
(Democratic National Convention, for those of you in Rio Linda)
as well as his propensity for sabotaging the Democratic Presidential
nominees by talking about their "courage to raise taxes" n' such

+ Thanks to Gary Johnson (70400...@compuserve.com)
of the 'Memory' (get it?) Division for dredging this misfire off the
cutting room floor of societal evolution. (Rush probably got baked
for that idea!) Thanks also to my liberal friend Nathan Engle
(na...@psygate.psych.indiana.edu), and to Joseph Dougherty (see above)
for confirming the story.

for confirming the artist

(Fo'ma D.C. Mayor) Marion Barry Update:
(as pronounced by Mike Tyson)
"The No No Song" by Ringo Starr (edited)
containing the lyrics "No, No, No... I Don't Smoke It No More"
off the album GOODNIGHT VIENNA
aired during Barry's indictment/conviction for 'crack' possession

Gulf War Update:
Wicked Witch's Guards' March
from THE WIZARD OF OZ soundtrack
aired during the "Wo" (as pronounced by Sen. Sam Nunn)
mocking CNN's ponderous kettledrums on "War In The Gulf"

'General' David Dinkins (N.Y.C. Mayor) Update:

Gorbasm/Mikhail Gorbachev Update:
"Imperial March" composed by John Williams

"Oh... It's Mr. Baloney!"

"My Boy Lollipop" by Millie Small
after Frank admitted having been "suckered" by
live-in lover/gay prostitute Steven Gobie

Gay Community/AIDS Update:
"I'll Never Love This Way Again" by Dionne Warwick
A VERY short-lived bit, intended to protest ACT-UP's tactics.
Rush "pushed the envelope" a little too far with this one, kind of
like with the "Caller Abortion".

Gay Community Update:
"You Don't Own Me" sung by Klaus Naomi?*
(cover of the 1963 Leslie Gore song) and before that, very briefly
"Back In The Saddle Again" sung by Gene Autry+

this bit of EIB history. Confirmations anyone?

Actually, the song Rush plays is not "Eye In The Sky" but the instrumental
called "Sirius" which is right before it (the first song on the album). It
leads into "Eye In The Sky" but I don't think he actually gets to it.
