The mahogany-mounted mariners glass I pictured was more of an optical
instrument. But the ship would have had a mahogany port glass stand
too, for sure. And the hickory daiquiri dock. As prescribed by the
ships doc. He was an iconoclast and the men got a ration of daiquiri.
Not so much "grog time" as "apres-yardarm".
