Long Hair and Earrings?

Hi all! Say, just wanted to throw this question out for people
to chew on and digest.

I wear my hair long since I like it that way. My ponytail is 6
to 8 inches long now...(don't know for sure, will have to have Julie
measure me...the 'tail that is...*smile*) Julie like my hair long also
and I have heard from may women that they too like men with long hair.

Question is: Why DO some women like long hair on men? Alternate
question: Why DON'T some women like long hair on men? Should generate
some discussion I imagine. Now remember, no flaming, just post your
preferences, ladies, and your reasons. Men, how about you? Do you wear
your hair long or short and why?

Oh, I suppose I should state why I like to wear my hair long.
I can't specifically pin down ALL the various psychological components
of this but I do know that it makes me feel "free"...you see, I work
in an office full of short haired men. I enjoy playing the rebel and
the long hair is just a small part of it. But, that is not my primary
reason. I just LIKE it long! I like the way it feels when the wind
blows it about and just the way it looks. I will have to think about
other reasons...oh, well another one is that my lovely wife likes it
too! That is a good incentive but not the main reason.

PART TWO:

Earring? Me? Hmmm, what a concept. I never even considered the
thought of it in the past. After all, earrings are for women!!! At
least, that is my childhood conditioning speaking. This year I am
going to be 39 years old *gasp* and for some reason, I have been
mulling over, in a desultory fashion, the thought of wearing an
earring. Why?...oh, I don't know yet, still working on that.

Same basic questions as above: Women, you like or not and why?
Men, you do or don't and why?

Steve Salter asked a couple of questions:

1. Long hair.

Well, I first wore my hair long in college (anti-parent thing). But,
I cut it back when I graduated and got a job. A few years ago, I
started growing it long again, mainly for a change. But mostly
because I was having a difficult time at work, and wanted to
express my independence some how (working with military folks at the
time, too, made long hair a particularly noticeable gesture!).

Back in August, I cut it back again, for two reasons: one, I was
getting tired of sweeping the bathroom floor once or twice a week
to get all the hair up, and two, most people who knew me said
they liked it when it was short. (Besides, I live in Florida,
and all that hair was getting *hot*!)

Bottom line: I'm indifferent about it. I like the sensuality of
having long hair. But I appreciate the convenience of short hair.

2. Ear ring.

Hmmmmm. Doesn't appeal to me. Doesn't bother me on men. But I
wouldn't do it. *shrug*.

As for getting older, well, I'll be 30 this year. Which means, if
I know my friends, they'll probably throw a 'wake' for me! :-)

Long. Up until the spring of 1985, I always had long hair... My mother
preferred it that way when I was a child, and I've always liked the sense
of freedom I get from wearing my hair long. Admittedly, it can be a bit
of a pain at times (like when it gets tangled), but I just prefer it long.
And after 6 1/2 years in the Air Force (April '85 - December '91), when I
couldn't wear my hair long, I've only had it cut twice - and didn't have
any length taken off. I admit to being a bit of a rebel myself - I'm going
into business, but I'm not going to cut my hair short... It's down to my
shoulders now, and I love it!

Yes. Not just one, but two. I have a selection, depending upon what I
feel like wearing. Today: gold & turquoise runic post (upper), gold &
turquoise tortuga (turtle) bangle on gold post (lower). Both in the
left ear, because I usually hold the phone to my right. Why? Because
I like having the freedom to wear a piece of jewelry where it won't get
in my way at work; also, because it's contrary to what most people expect
to see, and I like to shake them up a little. This, by the way, is going
to seem strange to my mom when I go home to see her this summer - I haven't
told her yet, and I've had my ear pierced for 9 months now...

Hmmm, I understand the convenience aspect quite well. I was just
thinking this morn about how quick it used to be to rinse my hair in
the shower and how fast it dried. But, the sensuality is one thing
that is nice that I don't wanna give up for convenience. It also
reminds me of the 60's-70's a bit I think which were my adolescent

Hmm, never really appealed to me either but for some reason I have

Sensuality is wonderful, but IMHO, needs to be shared to be fully
enjoyed. Sensuality for sensuality's sake borders on decadence,
I think.

I guess I wonder how much having an SO who appreciates the sensual
expression impacts the decision/enjoyment...?

Steve asks about Long hair or short. For me, I like my hair cut short. It's
easier to maintain. Dries real quick after I wash it. Also it's really
annoying for me when my hair grows long. It keeps tumbling in front of
my eyes and ears. I like to keep em clear of obstruction. Not to mention
long hair gives people a convenient handgrip in a close fight. Also long
hair brings an image of barbarian to me. And in China, during the Ching
Dynasty, I think it is mandatory for a man to grow their hair long, braid
it. Those of you who watch the Last Emperor should know. The people resent
this since it rubs their nose that Manchuria conquers China. It brings the
image of a dog tail. I suspect I got a little of this too. Anyway...

Okay: yes, I prefer long hair on men (Steve, Blade, Drieux and BDC are
some really good examples!). I guess it's because, on certain men, it
looks really good. Also, Steve mentioned a good reason: they appear
to be a little bit of a rebel (okay, in some cases, they're more than
a *little* bit of a rebel!). Another reason is you have something to
play with... *grin*

I've always liked earrings on certain men (you have to be able to
carry it off). My brother has one and has for several years. Even
had it while he was in the Army. And yes, he has long hair
too...about as long as Blade's. I say if you want the earring, get
it! If you decide you don't like it, you can always take the earring
out and the hole disappears...

Well, someone mentioned they wanted to see other topics discussed. I
think this is a good one, Steve!!

So, what's yer point? *smile* I dunno, sensuality for sensualities
sake sounds ok by me. Nothing wrong with hedonistic behaviors as long
as one is moderate. I think more to the point is how one feels about
themself though. If it feels *right* to be sensual then I say, do it.
I don't want to fit myself into a mold of convenience or "style" and
forego my outer expression of my inner self.

Hmmmm...tough question. I personally *love* long hair on men. I've been
sitting here trying to figure out *why*, trying to consider it logically.
And I *can't*! There is the rebelliousness of it, which is appealing. But
the *most* attractive part of it is the sensuality of it...the feel of it,
the look of it, the flow of it...it's all very sensual. *droooooooooool*

Well, personally, I don't really care either way. On the right guy, it can be
a wonderful look...on the wrong guy it can be almost laughable. :) But, I
would say that long hair and earrings go well together. Part of what makes
the difference in the look is how the guy carries it off. (I think the same
thing is true about long hair...) And, yes, as the point was made earlier, you
can always take out the earring if you don't like it! (after having some photos
taken to someday show your grandchildren of your "wild youth" ;)

This was a good question, Steve. And, personally, I say, Go for it! (the
earring, that is!) It's not permanent or anything...(now, a tatoo...;)

I can't comment on why women might *not* like long hair because I
*love* long hair on men. My PYM's comes down to his waist. *sigh* He

It is fairly simple, I like my hair long. A couple people,
well at least one person of ARC has see it long. I take care
of it, and it is well kept. It isn't a rebel thing, although
I do not follow the norm. (since age is banter so freely in
this post, this is year I turn 33, with 117 years left of my life)

I don't do things because it fashionable, I do things because I
like to. I have a beard, (well I call it a beard, it certainly
is not the bushy type...), but the beard has grown out from the
fact it was a pain to shave it everyday, when it didn't grow
fast enough to warrant it. (I have the a five o'clock shadow
every two days.) I actually alomst shave it off because it was
taking as much work to keep it neat as it would to shave it
everyday. but then I bought a trimmer and have been able to
keep it neat.

I don't have an earring, it just isn't my style. although I do
have a silver dolphin necklace that I wear.

Ciao for now,

BDC

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, I do not have the Awesome Computing Power to
pull previous letters into my letter with those little
greater-than signs in the left margin, but I'd like to add my
opinion to the long-hair question:

I was ecstatic to see all the discussion about long hair on
men. Sometimes I feel alone in the world because none of my
female (well, or male for that matter) friends have a long-hair
fetish like I do!! I'm notorious for it--once a friend of mine
saw a guy with really long hair in a bar and she went up to him
and said, "Oh, my friend Michelle would love you--she loves
long hair." Just this weekend, my friend Lori met three guys
who had REALLY long hair (as it turns out they were in a band)
and she told them about me, so when I came back from moving my
car, one ran up to me and said, " Michelle! Don't you remember
me?? We went to school together!"

I told him I loved his hair (of course) and he told me their
hotel room number! (incidentally, for Mr. HoJo here at UVA,
they were staying at HoJo's) We ended up not going though,
because we were too exhausted.

Anyway, why do I love long hair so much? I guess I mostly
agree with what other people wrote about it being very sensual,
sexy, and I just love running my fingers through it while
passionately kissing, or while in bed. The times I do kiss
short-haired men are rather amusing because it's automatic for
me to reach up to run my hand through the hair, and it's quite
traumatic when there's not enough hair there to do so!!!

Plus, there's something about hair that falls into the eyes, or
blows in the wind....I freaked in a department store in Germany
in December. There was a guy standing there with wavy, light
blond hair (very euro-looking) in a ponytail, but a bunch had
fallen into his face, and he kept pushing it back, and it would
gradually fall again...AAAH! I stood there pretending to look
at some kids' videos!

Sorry, I don't mean to babble about this--I fear I have written
too much, but I feel so much better to have some kindered
spirits! Any long-haired men out there, or women who love
long-haired men, please feel free to e-mail me!!!

I really didn't comment too much on this one yet, but I will say that I
do like how it looks. I also like how it feels to run my fingers through
it. I enjoy brushing it and putting it in a ponytail for him. I also
encourage Steven to do things that make him happy. And if having long

>Hmm, never really appealed to me either but for some reason I have

When I see a man with an earing, I usually don't notice it, really. I
think that means - for me, its not an issue. Therefore, if you, my
handsome, sexy, studly husband, want an earing, then by all means, get
one. Earings are a statement of personality. I wear earings that
reflect my mood and my style. If you think that an earing would
express something you want to express, then go ahead.

When my ex got an earing 7 years ago, everyone in both our families
thought he had lost his mind. Eventually, though, the hoopla died
down and everyone got used to it. My children think its tough that
their dad has an earing.

Judging my Zak's response when you mentioned it (Zak is middle son) I
would say they would need a little time to get used to it. But then,
they need to realize that you have changed. You're not the same
person two years ago. And as Zak said, "I wouldn't be surprised."

Matters on the man. Some men look comfortable with long hair...so
it looks good. Other's look good with their hair down to their shoulders.
I don't like men with crew cuts, but I don't think I would particularly

Ok about this question for long hair andarring. I've told youou about my
personal preference for short hair. However there is an angle that I have
just thought up. You see, I presume many of you works in an office where
having a long hair doesn't have any effect on your work performance. Now
if you work in a machine shop, having a long hair could become a danger
to your safety. It is not fun losing part of your scalp just because
your hair is caught in a bending machine rollers. This isn't a hypothetical
situation either. It happened in a machine shop I used to work. It was
way before the time I worked there. There are hazard for a loose long
hair to get caught in machinery. I think it is a rule somewhere against
having long hair, or at least you have to bind that close to your head.

RickI does have a point. My brother has long hair and works in an
auto plant, and has his hair in a pony tail and has to keep it out of
the way, in case of something happening. Depending on the kind of
shop you're in, if you want long hair it's possible -- but you'll have
to have a hair net of some sort to keep it away from machinery (this
is also true in a lot of restaurant's...)

Let me state the question from another angle:

When you make the sensual expression, do you do it because of the
way it makes *you* feel, or do you do it because of the way your
SO's reaction makes you feel?

The point being which gives more enjoyment, IYHO: the primary or

I have always loved long hair on guys. It is a fetish of mine,
I guess you could say.... I grew up watching my real bro, who
was 10 years older than me, go thru Beatlemania and the big
rebellion....I used to play with this Beatle wig he bought me.
*chuckle* .... I think this has played a role in my long-hair
fetish.... There is more!! :-) One of my girlfriends here
is always telling me I have the "Jesus-syndrome" because I often
drool over long hairs; there could be some truth in that too.
As a small child I would see the pictures of what people thought
Jesus looked like, and I always found him VERY handsome.

You know, Jesus would have made a great rock star.... *teasing wink*

> Earring? Me? Hmmm, what a concept. I never even considered the
>thought of it in the past.

I have no problem with guys have one ear pierced and wearing
a subtle earring....In fact I think a nice diamond looks great
in a guy's ear.... Of course, when I was in Jr. High, that was
the big thing, guy's getting their ears pierced. I had a boyfriend
who my mom used to give her "only one left" earrings to back then.
But for some reason, guys with big flashy earrings, or with
several on each ear, or on both ears, that just strikes me as
odd.

Thanks for bringing these questions up, Steven!! *cool* :-)

Hey, Lis, I got shoulder length hair and a beard...
And for Halloween I but on a robe and went as Jesus...
C'mon over and drool on me!

But to be serious...
well, that was serious, but to answer Steve's question...
I had my hair short when I played football in high school, cause nobody
wants to be running around in 85 degree weather under 20 lbs. of equipment
with shoulder length hair. The sweat and the gnats and the dust all
gets caked in there together and it gets really nasty. But, after I
graduated and was in college, I just let it get long cause I was too
lazy to worry about it. I now keep it about shoulder length, cause I like
it. The women I usually date seem to like it too (I guess if they didn't
like it, they'd never go out with me...hmm, logical fallacy in there
somewhere, I think...), but it's my choice.
As for the earring, I went through enough pain in high school (most injured
player, three years running...I also have a room in the hospital emergency
room dedicated to me, for my frequent donations through my insurance
company...) that I never really wanted to submit myself to pain voluntarily.
I've got enough holes and scars in me <hey, Lis, does your hair fetish
also tie in with scars? I have some in some very interesting places...
Care to have a look? :)>.

Ross- don't get an earring- I don't want to break a tooth when I nibble on your
lobes!!!!!! (Well, only if you'd *like* me to nibble on your lobes!)

I have long flowing thick brown hair (mid back), which I have had about 5 years
now. I always used to have hair as short as Ross's (which I find incredibly se
xy on men, by the way), and I liked the convenience of it, too. Actaully, now
my hair is fairly convenient as well- I don't need to wash it as often, and I c
an braid it back. I have been told by many males thatlong hair like mine is in
credibly sexy, and, having been everybody's sister-and nobody's-girlfriend for
quite a while, the idea of being sexier does have a hand in my decisionto keep
it long- besides- now people notice my hair instead of my big boobs. :-)

I got my ears pierced when I was 14, and was mistaken for my father's son inste
ad of his daughter when we went to play racquetball (the boobs weren't quite so
big then). He decided perhaps it would be okay if I did it, and it was a way
for me to assert my femininity in a conservative town (boys just DIDN"T get the
ir ears pierced). Now I wear 'em or don't- no big thing.

As far as long hair on men, I have to admit, I prefer short hair- I can see his
gorgeous neck, and I like the feel of playing with short hair while I kiss a m
an (which hasn't been for so long..... :-( and, call me blah, but i don't like
earrings on men, though I've dated a couple guys with earrings.

I am not a woman, but...

I have left the military service for three years, yet
I am still saving a very short hair. It makes me look
extremely cute. But the major reasons are I like to
shampoo everyday and I only need to go to the barber
shop every three months. Good for a poor young engineer.

I've already answered by e-mail, but I might as
well add to the noise here...

I am a long-hair fanatic. Some of the "elders"
may remember my "five points of interest" -
I tend to notice a male if he has

1) long hair
2) moustache
3) is tall
4) is skinny
5) has intense eyes

Any combination of the above will cause second
(and third, and so on) looks.

I don't base my RELATIONSHIPS on requiring any
or all of the above - but I do tend to NOTICE
males with those characteristics. drieux's
eyes, moustache and hair caught my attention
the first time I met him.

As for earrings - I like them. But then, I tend
to have hung around a lot of rockers, so I see
a lot of them. I just can't think of any guy I
know that would look BAD in them.

Well, I don't know that *sexy* is the right word. I find women with
long hair extremely attractive, but I'm not sure that I'd use that word.
A great many other compliments come to mind :-) Jennifer, hopefully
people want to know you for who you are, and not what you look like, but

I agree that a lot of men find women with long hair attractive.

I suppose I have suffered a little from that conservative attitude. But
for me I don't see the point in having my ears pierced. There are
plenty of other ways I can rebel :-) On the other hand, there's nothing
like watching the smile on your girlfriend's face as she puts on the
white gold and sapphire earrings that you had made especially for her.
(I even went to the sapphire mine and selected the stones myself ;)

Lis is drooling all over everything:

The Cheshire Cat, napping under the couch in front of the ARC
fireplace (as usual), is gently awakened by the sound of the
surf. Breaking and falling, the sound is a balm that begins
to lull the feline back to sleep...except for the little
alarm going off in the back of his mind....

*OH NO!* (He awakens in panic!)

There's no beach by the ARC fireplace!

That means.....DROOL!!!!!

*AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH*

*rumble*

*rumble*

The room begins to shake...

*rumBLE*

*RUMBLE*

*CRASH*

*SPLOOSH*

A large wave of drool crashes through the door, engulfing
the Cheshire Cat, and sweeping through the room...

When the tide finally recedes, our kitty has been cast up
on the ledge in front of the ARC FirePlace, looking like...
well...like a very wet and disgruntled cat!

Shaking himself off, he climbs to the mantle, above the
fireplace, and settles himself back down.

"When will these people ever learn?"

>SO's reaction makes you feel?

>The point being which gives more enjoyment, IYHO: the primary or

...wow, what a great question. Hmmm, that is really complicated but
if, as my mind is rapidly doing in it's own background process, you
slice through all the extra stuff and get right down to the "nub" of
the matter....this is what I come up with.

I do it primarily for the way it makes ME feel. That is first: I have
to be true to myself. I have done a lot of self sacrificing in my two
previous relationships to the point of being really codependent. I
understand that I HAVE to be true to myself first and then I be open
and free with my S.O. If I just wore my hair long or wore and earring
or whatever to please her then I may eventually resent it...who knows.
I do know that in the past I have done a lot of things that I
personally didn't like, would not have done if I considered myself
first. I learned that lesson.

What makes it so wonderful is that I do it for both of us now. If I do
something that Julie may not especially like she will tell me and I
will weigh that and make a decision. BUT, the wonderful thing in our
marriage is that we consider the other person from THEIR viewpoint
before we say things.

Example: Julie wanted to go to breakfast one morning in town and I
DEFINITELY did not want to go. I wanted to just stay home and do
whatever I wanted. BUT, I looked at the situation and realized she
would be happy to do it...hey, no decision to make. We went out for
breakfast. IF I had REALLY hated the thought I would have said
something though. It's called compromise and "thinking of the
other"...:)

"entertaining in a pleasant way"? Ooooh baby, I could think of a dozen
adjectives to describe it better. Julie and I often (only missed a
few mornings the last several months) take a shower together and I
like to rinse her hair for her. I am usually rinsing mine as she
shampoos hers though so she doesn't get to do anything. Maybe I should
ask her if she wants to. Problem is that we usually don't have a lot
of time in the early morning while we get ready for work and if we
fool around too much in the shower we end up getting to work VERY late
or calling in "sick".

[Excuse the butchering job I did of that paragraph]

This is a VERY important point to learn in relationships. I think its
VERY probable that if someone did something simply to please the other,
it could cause resentment. There IS a big difference between compromise
and ignoring ones own needs.

I think you have to look at it that way. In some cases, it pleases me to
please him. Like coffee, for instance. I set the coffee maker each night
so he'll have fresh coffee each morning (except for a few times I forgot).
It makes me happy to do that for Steven. I know he appreciates it and
its such a simple thing to do. The rewards are excellent.

Ok, now the onus has switched to wich do you prefer on *wimmen*?
Personally I prefer short to just below shoulder length. There is a
gal here with short hair, and it just drives me wild! I think alot
of it depends on how you see the person for the first time. It is
hard to get the mental image of someone out of your mind. If I was
to show up to the next Chat with long hair, like to my butt, I think
people would freak out!

Yes I do wear long hair. I prefer not holding it into
a ponytail though. I like it loose. I find that I like
it when it blows in the wind. I also find that many people
who have seen me with my hair short, make a point of
remarking that I look much better with long hair.

Gosh my other post appeared within minutes! Maybe they have a useful system over
here now.

Long hair?
I have short hair, I've had long hair and it's interesting but I'm a
lazy little tyke and short hair is less hassle to keep looking good.
Doesn't fall in your eyes either.
I prefer long hair on women as a rule because you can 'do more' with it
artisticly I mean. This isn't really relevant though, If the one I love
has short hair, that's what she has and very nice it is too.

Ear rings?
Lovely idea, no problems with it at all. I'd like one but I have no
idea what to put in one. So no earring.

Useful, huh? I'm tempted to say that it's people that matter and not hair
or adornments but you lot know all that anyway.

Others reactions are interesting though. I had all my hair off before Xmas
and it was most strange. Watching people cross the street to avoid me was
damn' amusing though. If you want people to think you're a violent psycho
just waiting to terrorise their children then peach-fuzz on your head is the
way to go.

True, true. Speaking of sensual...what a feelin'! I have a marine friend who, when I'm really good, will let me "pet" his head. *giggle* It's fun.
And as for balding guys, well, it's a look...;) Don't worry Rip, they have
wonderful technology these days....;)

Personally, I think Patrick Stewart has one of the sexiest voices I've ever
heard. I love listening to him talk. (Even as a narrator for a film in my
physics class...;) And, yes, he's charismatic. And the other men you listed all
have their high points, but I think the whole concept of "the sexiest man" is
ridiculous, considering that each woman sees different things in each man.
I mean, sex-gods like Mel Gibson (oh, those *eyes*!!!) are wonderful to watch,
and are *definitely* appreciated, I don't think I could qualify any one man with
the title of "sexiest". Just my opinion....

But Ross, if you vociferiously praise any of my dimensions before kissing them,
you won't need to camp outside.... I might even let you be my snuggle bunny!

Are you talking to me? Are *you* talking to me?! I sure hope so! I
would love to come help you out, but I don't think my Mistress would
approve. And I *do* so want to keep my manhood!

Butt, as a wise person once said, life is a game, and those who only
spectate are doomed to be lonely. Romance is dead only for those who
have stopped believing in themselves....

Hey! Hold on a sec!! I was just as shocked as *you* were! Besides,
I would *never* say anything like that!! My mind and heart are too
pure, and humble.... ;-)
