Hey all,

I really liked the albums Paul Chapman played on. I "dug"
them......am I the only one? I have a video where Phil Mogg basically
shit-cans him says he is techinically OK but not much of a
contributor...I think he ruled........

Anyone know what he is doing now? (Is his nick still "Tonka"?)

God only knows what Paul Chapman is doing now. I cannot remember hearing
anything of him since the split of UFO in the early 80's.

I too thought the Chapman albums were good (yes, including Making
Contact folks) and, here's heresy for you, I thought UFO a better live
band with him than with Schenker! As for what Mogg has to say about
Chapman, well I'd take that with a pinch of salt, Mogg always was good
at slagging off past workmates.

I second the call for any info on Chapmans exploits after UFO. Anybody
able to help?

Chapman was just as hot ( if not better ) than it was with Mikey. The band
was getting alot more attention with Chapman, as well as starting to headline
their own tours. Yeah I saw the tape also when they basically dissed Chapman
and his place with the band. Twisted ( Hey Jan-------"You Wanted The

C'mon Jan, you couldn't possibly 'miss' Neil Carter!

Bubble perm, boiler suit, big honk, couldn't possibly 'miss' 'im. <g>

Actually, rather like Paul Chapman, I think Neils contribution to the
band was/is somewhat overlooked. As I have said, the
Mogg/Way/Parker/Chapman/Carter line up was shit hot live (mostly).

Paul Chapman is currently teaching guitar. You can
see his latest goings on here:

You can also read a current interview with Paul from here:

Ya, I miss Chapman. I'd gladly go see UFO
(or whatever they would call themselves
now without Schenker) with Tonka on
guitar again. There are some new sources
of info on the guy that you can check out.

There is a good, brand new interview of
Paul Chapman on a website called Eyes of
Rock:
http://sony.inergy.com/EYES_OF_ROCK/
interviews.html.

It makes very interesting reading.

He discusses his whole career before,
during, and after UFO, including when they
decided to call it quits in 1983. He also talks
about playing with Pete in Waysted after
that.

Chapman now teaches guitar lessons in
Florida and has a video guitar lesson series
and website called Completeguitar.com.

I had a great time at the two Tonka shows I went to, and enjoyed NPTR
and TWWATI, but....

He had the impossible task of following Michael. He could've been
Hendrix reincarnated and would've had a hard go of it. As it was, I
think he did an admirable job, but (there's another "but") his sense of
melody just didn't come close to that of the Blond Bomber. The LO, O,
and SITN line-up was a 10. With Chapman, I think they sank to around an
8. Like I said, I had a good time at Tonka shows in the distant past,
but probably wouldn't go see them now. Anyone seen my cane?

You all might not remember this one, but it went to the
effect of " Send $25.00 to the UFO Fan Club for
membership and the first 100 orders will recieve a Gold
UFO Backstage Pass". Thats my fave at the moment.

Yeah, I liked the albums he played on, especially No Place to Run. He's
in Orlando, Florida now. I saw the band on the WW&I tour, and they
really rocked. Even Neil Carter.

I just discovered this newsgroup, I have been a UFO/Schenker fan for ages. I
can usually find something to like about in any version of UFO. Neil Carter
was vastly underrated, his rhythm playing and especially his counterpoint
vocals(check out "the way the wild wind blows" ending). He was also
enjoyable to watch on the "mechanix" tour an energetic live performer.
Favorite obscure tracks, hmm... tough one.. "looking for love", "let it
rain", "try me", " "I don't want to lose", great guitar solo. The list goes
"On and On", sorry bad pun! Later Allen

I agree about NC. He never got the respect he deserved. Hear him with Gary
Moore, and he gets more of a chance to sell himself, in the playing, writing
and singing.

I think NC never got the respect he deserved. When you think about it, how
many rhythm guitarists who can also play keyboards and saxophone are there
out there? There's a good interview with him in one of the issues of Misty
Green & Blue, the UFO fanzine mentioned a lot around these parts. I think
he's working as a music teacher although he seems a bit vague in the
interview. Someone once told me he bred cats for a living. No really.
Although I suspect this may well have been a Mogg-instigated wind-upŠ
Incidentally, does everyone out there know the great Pete Way/Robin Zander
story?

Neil Carter really does breed cats, and is also a cat judge at cat shows. He
is also a music teacher in the Brighton area of the U.K. Nice bloke too.

No! I saw the Carter/Chapman lineup open for Ozzy back in 82.
Chapman's leads were amazing, and he and Carter really worked well
together.

How about a reunion with that line up than? Don't even invite Schenker. O.K,
they might have to call themselves something different, but the line up
could still be the same.
