It is "La La Means I Love You" by The Delfonics, so it doesn't count...
Similarly, someone suggested The Shirelles' "Baby It's You" but I think
they sang "sha la la la la" in the background.
I would suggest "I Count the Tears" by The Drifters (1960):
Na na na na na na late at night

Dave, you're slipping! You can't forget "Hey Jude"! (It's from 1970,
still within the time-frame for A-R-O.)

Lovin', Touchin' , Squeezin' -- Journey (1978 ?)
Hey Jude -- Beatles (1968 ?)
Get a Job -- Silhouettes (195?)
Possibly ... She's got the Look -- Roxette (198?)
(I don't know if the title of this one is right)
- or -
Welcome to the Jungle -- Guns n' Roses (the chorus sha..na.na.na.na
knees ...etc)
Oh, how I love useless memory and association exercises

A band called "Steam" sang something circa 1968 to 1972 with the
following words:
Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, hey hey, goodbye.
I think the name of the song was "Kiss him goodbye."
Over here in South Africa, someone used the melody of the chorus line
and changed it to:
Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, hey hey, he's a wanker.
This line is often sung by drunk hecklers. Is this particular change
of the words also found in other countries?

Yep - and it came out in 1969.
There's also "Land of 1000 Dances" by Wilson Pickett
I recall another one - I don't remember the name, but I think it was by
Dave Clark Five" - "No-no-no-no-no-no... Nobody."
