The song is actually called "The Rain, The Park & Other Things" which was
a hit for the family group - The Cowsills in the fall of 1967(this was the
group that was the inspiration for the Partridge family TV show). As for
Who wrote it - the credit goes to A. Kornfeld/S. Dubott.

Here's some more info on The Cowsills' #2 hit from September of 1967. It
was their second-biggest hit, featuring lead singer Bill Cowsill, along
with his sister, mother, and brothers, from their 1967 debut album. It
was written by Artie Kornfeld & S. Duboff, and was originally issued on
MGM #13810.
You can find it on the following CDs:
Polydor GH CD [stereo]
"Cowsills" CD [stereo]
45's on #3 CD [mono single vers.]
Summer of Love #1 CD [stereo]

Not all of it's horrible. I suspect you don't listen to enough of it to
know for sure.
But I would agree that a *lot* of it is horrible. Occasionally, I'll put
on MTV for 8-10 hours while I'm working in my office, and I'm sometimes
stunned by how horrible current music can be.
But once in a blue moon, something comes up that surprises me. I'm
particularly a fan of groups that can take an old 1960s or 1970s song and
find a way to update it to the 1990s without insulting the people who did
the original song. (I won't get into the details, because it's beyond
this group's charter, but suffice it to say that once in awhile, the new
version can be really entertaining on one level.)

Ironic, ain't it? All the complaints on ARO about today's music? Echoing
the same thing YOUR parents said back in the late 50s. "Sounds like a
lotta noise to me." For a time the Beatles were SUCH a relief, eh? Then
came those horrid Rolling Stones. Then that terrible Steppenwolf noise.
Then Grace promising "Now you will see Morning Maniac music."
"Sha-la-la-la-la-la live for today." '67 Grassroots philosophy gone out
the window? Haven't taken a Magic Carpet Ride lately?
Today's American music sure isn't as melodic as today's UK music.
Depressed old(ies) fans looking for TUNES might want to turn into the
import aisle and check out the current Brit Pop scene. Or get out the
old Zenith Worldband and check out the Beeb.
You know, that island where all the best melodic rock has always come
from. ;->

And I agree with you on the pop music of today - of ANY day since the
early 70s really. The innocence is lost from not only pop music, but
from our society as a whole, especially our youngsters. I won't go on
about sociological things, but I agree that it is indeed a real shame.
