The article is out of date. Spanky left the Ms&Ps around the end of 1993.
Last I knew, Deb Lyon was their alto and Lisa Eiesland their soprano,
replacing Melody Jones (in what was originally Michelle Gilliam's position),
and they were referred to as "Mama Lyon" and "Mama Lisa".

But M. Petri's answer is right: Marilyn McCoo was never a member of the
Ms&Ps.

NO! I clipped this from CDNow for you:

Sort of a poor man's Mamas & Papas, Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane and her
bandmates hit the heights of the charts in the late '60s with
pop/folk/rock radio-ready tunes like "Sunday Will Never Be the Same,"
"Like to Get to Know You," and "Lazy Day." Being true
folkies at heart, the group had a major protest song, "Give a Damn," that
was banned on many radio stations. After breaking up in the
early '70s (and briefly reuniting in 1975), McFarlane became a very
in-demand backup singer, working with many stars, including
Roger McGuinn. Now, she is a member of the touring-only Mamas & Papas,

where she fills the musical void left by Mama Cass
Elliott. ~ Larry Lapka

-- Larry Lapka, All-Music Guide

So, as you see... Marilyn McCoo did not sing with S&OG. (Elaine's voice
is quite a lot different from Marilyn's, too.)

Anyway, Marilyn is still around. She's featured fairly often as a big
star at some of the shows in the casinos here in Atlantic City, NJ.

I don't think so .... she was in 5D when they were called the Hi-Fi's,
which would be 1966, and that was when Spanky was formed, so it's
unlikely.

Sorry, no real help there. The last I know about she was a hostess on
some tv programme, and that was in the 80's.

Cheers!

Yes, aside from touring in casinos in Atlantic City and similar venues, she now
has a moderately successful recording career in Gopsel music.

Also, a couple of years ago, she rejoined the original Fifth Dimension members
for a national U.S. tour, but that was not intended as anything more than a
temporary reunion.

Incidentally, I understand Razor & Tie shall soon be releasing on CD her most
sucessful album with husband Billy Davis, Jr.

I don't _think_
Spanky & Our Gang existed before McCoo was in the Fifth Dimension. The
lead singer of Spanky & Our Gang was always -- again, I _think_ --
Spanky MacFarlane.

Speaking of the revamped Mamas and Papas lineup, I saw them two years ago
at Ohio University. One of the highlights of the show was John Phillips'
comment: "As you can see, the Papas are a lot older than the Mamas..."

If I remember correctly, Scott Mackenzie was the other Papa on this
occasion. And the Kingston Trio (2/3 original) opened for them.

McCoo is currently playing Julie in a very lavish production of _Show_Boat_
here in Chicago. As with "Wedding Bell Blues," she gets to use her husband's
name in a song.
