OK, so the fucking thing is dead. It's been dead for a month. Dead like a
president.
What do you think, how many things can prevent you from getting your
computer fixed? ? ?
Exams, learning, programes, drawing, bad weather, coffe breaks, no car, no
service, prolonged billiard games, morning coffees, bad mood, sleeping,
overhang, etc, etc...

At least newsadmins have been nice and transfered the NG, so I can finaly
see what's going on here (wait! I can't I don't have a comp...)

To keep this rambling at least a bit on topic:
I just bought Bruce Dickinsons' new live album (that is on topic, right?),
the material is excellent, you get most of the Chemical Wedding songs, with
a bit of Accident of Birth and Balls to Picasso material thrown in for a
good measure.
But (there's always a but), whoever recorded and mixed this should get at
least a spanking, if not something more, I for one have absolutely no wish
to listen to brazilians shouting and singing "Ole, ole, Bruce" or "maiden,
Maiden" (!) during the songs. And the band is mixed rather badly, the
instruments are not quite distinguishable, and the words "crystal clear",
often applied to the modern standards of live recording have very little
place here.

This has been my introductory, and at the same time outroductory message to
this NG, I'm going home for holidays.
Gotta get drunk now.

Enjoy yourselves,

Ante

Speaking of Bruce Dickinson, I listened to "Live After Death" almost in it's
entirety at work today and only had one emergency rush to the bathroom. I'm
really starting to see flashes now that I'm coming out of my Sabbath coma. I
think it's these damn compilation albums I've been listening to.
I'd like to take back all the negative things I've said in this forum and
others about Bruce's singing style, even the comment about how he always sounds
like he's trying to push out a big loaf. Obviously the man doesn't have a
plugged asshole, or he wouldn't have gotten very far in the world of
rock-n-roll. As we all know, Iron Maiden rose to the top of the metal heap,
even earning a spot as Judas Priest's opening act at one point. But why, on the
live album, do they play everything so fast? Are they all coked up or what?
It's kind of annoying, every song is so speeded up you can't get into it, it's
no wonder the guy quit the band, he probably couldn't breathe!

p.s... you have a nice holiday too, Ante!

I never went to very many concerts, being more of a listener than a
"participant", but my first was DiAnno Maiden at the Hammersmith Odeon
where they were supporting, as you say, JP. A fantastic experience as I
recall. Maiden were *excellent*. DiAnno was very dynamic and got the crowd
behind him. I remember my teeth vibrating some time later when Halford came
in on his bike and was very soon hitting some of those high notes!

My schoolfriends were there in another part of the venue (as they'd bought
their tickets earlier on - mine were a birthday present I think and were
*very* enthusiastic about this talented new band: those who had been to a
good number of gigs already said that Maiden were better than some of the
headliners they had seen - although I don't recall any names! Of course
this was ll around 20 years ago!

I was planning to sleep at the station that night but my dad - who was then
living north of London - drove out to pick me up after I had announced this
well thought-out plan over a payphone!! The excitement had kept me warm in
the hour it took him to arrive and not a drop of alcohol had passed my lips
all night! I don't think I even *liked* beer then!!

Showing off?!

I never got to see Maiden, but I did catch Priest on the "Turbo" tour, it was
totally incredible. They played better live than any band I've ever heard,
including the mighty Sabbath. Halford just effortlessly soared into the upper
registers, as you mentioned. They did like three encores, it was the second
best concert I ever saw, absolutely. Sounds like DiAnno was a kickass singer
for Maiden, but I've never had the pleasure.
