11 years after its release, I just bought Garage Inc on Vinyl and found that
side 4 (Garage Days Re-Revisited) plays at the wrong speed, i.e. at 33rpm it
sounds as if its being played at 45. I am definately playing at 33, at 45
its obviously worse.
Does anyone know if all vinyl copies are like this and if the CD is the
same?
Martin
Vinyl? 33? 45? WTF are you on about? It's 2009 dude! :-)

Er... that's not very likely now is it? But FWIW, the CD plays okay.
Vinyl is still the superior medium for lots of music.
Not Metallica, though. What a waste.

I don't agree! Vinyl gives a fuller sound alright, but can murk the lower
end of the music, so I find it doesn't always give a true representation
of the music that was recorded.(Obviously, it depends on the actual
music.) Stuff that was originally released on vinyl just doesn't sound
right on CD mind you, that much is true. However, that's because we are
used to the warmer sound of the vinyl recording. But all this remastering
of stuff that was recorded for a CD in recent years for an 'audiophile'
vinyl release is just a money making racket from the music industry. They
don't give a shit about music quality, it's all about making money. And a
180g virgin vinyl LP when played a few times, will still suffer from
crackles and hisses over time, so will hardly be better than the CD
version. But some people fall for the hype.
FWIW, I still have a lot of my vinyl, but I wouldn't buy vinyl reissues of
stuff that wasn't originally released on vinyl, unless it's a picture disc
that I can put on my wall. (Like the Iron Maiden 'Somewhere Back In Time'
LP release which looks bloody good in a frame and is staring down at me
now as I type this!!!)
Either my ears are fucked or I have cheap equipment ( a bit of both to
be honest :) ). I hear people say vinyl is better than CD, CD is better
than mp3, mp3 at 320 is better than mp3 at 192 etc. I can barely tell
any difference.
Does your CD have the weird section in one of the songs that sounds
backwards?
I think your ears are fucked, all those concerts are starting to take
their toll.
Yeah, that and working in a nightclub for 5 years...they`re not what
they were. I ripped the last Iced Earth CD in both lossless AAC and 192
AAC and couldn`t notice a whisker of difference. Granted I`m not running
an especially expensive sound card but I have fairly decent computer
speakers.
There hasn`t been one review of Metallica`s UK tour in here yet...no-one
been??
Maybe I should write one, listening to the mp3s of the show I was at
now, so might be a good time to write one.
You should share these things...hint hint..;-)
*hopes he sent the right details to DC*
