Metallica! Someone want to tell me what all the fucking whining is all

like a bunch of fucking babies in a crib! If you don't like the way they
look, then don't fucking look at them! Jeezus! Besides, if you base a
group simply by the way they look, you are a fucking reject anyways that
knows little about real music in the first place! Want to know something
else...? If you don't like what you've heard of the new recording, don't
fucking buy it!!! I'm sure there are plenty of fans out there who'll enjoy
the new album regardless of what the band looks or sounds like. Metallica
is going to be here for a long time, whether you Metallibabies like it or
not. And here's another thing... For all of you out there who say that
Metallica has denied their Metal roots and aren't Metal anymore...Well,
take another listen. I think the new cd is quite good. Sure, it's no
Master or Justice or Lightning, but all of that has been done before!
Metallica have grown up and so has their sound. Just because they don't
play 1,000 miles an hour anymore (as heard on the Black album) doesn't
mean that they've lost a single inch of ground in heaviness. Well, I know
some people are going to hate this message and some people are going to
agree with it. Bottom line is this: if you want something faster and
better, go listen to something else!(Or start your own fucking band for
that matter...)! I dig the new album and if you don't, SO FUCKING WHAT!!!

This is so god damn right, I'm pressed as to what to add to it. James
said this album actually reflects how the band is than any other album
because they wrote all the songs and didn't just match titles with
lyrics like on the other albums. It's the fucking bandwagoner's that
are bitchin' anyway. If you were a true fan, it would take a while of
listening before dismissing the album. If you don't like the way the
great Metallica went on this album, pick another band's wagon to jump
on because the next album, out in two years, will be the same. They
wrote about 30 songs and released the first 14 on this album and will
release the rest after the tour. So it will be the same shit. I have
been a fan since Kill'em All and cried the day Cliff died. How many
of you where actually fans then? Hell, how many of you actually know
WHO Cliff is? You whiners need to go post this negative shit
somewhere else so the true fans can praise Metallica...maybe
alt.music.sinead.oconner or something.

Well said Mike! I have just found this newsgroup and am amazed at how much negative shit
I have heard about the new album. I've spent the last two hours just reading all of the
posts and cannot believe what I'm hearing. I have only heard the album 3 times so far but
even though it is not as good as RTL or MOP I still think it is good, just remember it
sometimes takes a few times of listening to it before it grows on you. I have been a fan
since RTL and have seen them live 3 times and sure the older stuff is heavier but just as
peoples tastes change, bands change. When I want to hear heavy stuff I will pull out KEA
and RTL, when I want more melodic stuff I will pull out TBA and the new one. Sure it is
not thrash metal anymore but still is good stuff. I do miss the solo songs like Call of
Ktulu and Orion though as well as the slow beginnings turning into thrash (a la Fight
Fire with Fire). It was always fun to throw RTL on for parents and other older people who
hear the acoustic beginning and then watch their faces when it turns heavy, that was
always priceless!!! :-)
I will listen to the new album at least 10 times before I give it my final decisions but
already I know it is not my #1 fave, but it's hard to keep topping yourself everytime.
Who knows, maybe #8 will just blow everyone away and be total hardcore. I just wonder if
they will do my two favorite all time Metallica songs in any of their upcoming
shows:Seek&Destroy and Creeping Death. I still cannot listen to Creeping Death without
driving at 100 mph or greater! One of the all time greatest drivin tunes!

Hey you fat fucks, how come your only response is to question who the real
fans are? I joined the so called "banwagon" in 1991 due to TBA and guess
what? I love
Metallica as much as any of you Elitist Shit heads who joined the banwagon in
1983. I know as much about the band as any of you brainless computer
geeks. Yes, I know about Cliff and I think the biggest insult to his
memory would be to mentally picture him in one of those perfect hair cuts
the other members now exhibit. Let me explain to you & all others like you
why I, along with many other "real" fans are bothered by the hair & all
the other shit. In the home video Cliff'M All, James said (with Cliff
next to him) that they were trying to bring across the MUSIC more than the
LOOK. This was when MOP came out. If you look at the MOP CD booklet
you'll see several pictures of the band. Their hair is messed up. They
are wearing T-shirts & jeans. In one picture they are sitting around in a
pig styde drinking. They look like the kind of guys you would hand around
with & have a drink. Now look at the damm booklet for Load. The pictures
are perfectly lit, they have hair cuts that look 5 minutes old (you can
tell some faggot was fixing their hair & make up off camera), and their
clothing matches with the backgrounds & the lenses. Now go back & look at
MOP bookley, notice how much space the lyrics take & how much space the
pictures take. Then take a look at Load & how much space the pictures
take and how much space the few lyrics take.
My friends, the LOOK has now become more important than the MUSIC.
They have become what they used to say they hated. I personally have not
yet become (at age 25) what I used to say I hated & I suspect neither have
the other real fans who are bothered by this new "direction".
Another thing that bothers me about you pencil dicks is: what the fuck does
the band has "grown up" mean to you? They have "grown up" just because
James now sounds like he's singing with both his hands covering his mouth
(hey, Rob Zombie has been doing that for the last 2 albums). There's no
way you jack ass can tell me that "Mama Said" can represent any kind of
Growth of any shape or form. Everytime I hear that fucking song I expect
to hear a narrator sayng: "It was right about this time that the Duke
boys took the General in for repairs". Also they shoul have called song #7
"boring me".
Here's the deal you human waste, I love Metallica as much as any one else. I
believe they saved me from killing myself in 1992 (I'm sure some of you
wouldn't have minded) & yes I was there at 12:01 AM on tuesday June 4th to
buy the new album, probably tomorrow I'll be in my car screaming the
lyrics to 2x4 (or at least what I think the lirycs are) one of the few
good songs. I'll still defend Metallica against any other band at work or
where ever, BUT when I or the other real Metallica fans are in this
environment (with other Metallica fans) you bet your $2.00 dollar ass we
are going to bitch and moan about the direction our favorite band is
taking and if you closeminded piece of garbage & others like you can't
take it, then go and create your own news group and called it
"Metalli-yes-Men" and wait for the Metallica breakfast cereal to come out.

i thought i was the only one that got chills down my spine from their
older songs. One, Fade, Master, Sanitarium, Orion, and Chtulu are all
songs that have given me the chills depending on the situation and how
i was listening to them and what i was thinking about.
good news tho, the other day i was driving on a long drive and
relentlessly playing load on my stereo to really get a deep feel for
the album. Mama said came on and skeptical as usual i started
listening to the song again. but i guess i had heavy thoughts on my
mind this day because i really listened to it in a different way than
usual. i really thought about what he was saying, how he was
literally pouring his heart out on the table for everyone to view. it
may be slightly cheesy but i have heard way more cheesier songs in my
life that i thought were excellent (im a styx fan!). anyway the
bridge came on and he was saying 'you gave me your emptiness and ill
take to my grave' and for some reason that really struck me deep. it
usually happens only once ina while for me with met, but it happened
here with load, they moved me. my stero cabinet reads like the metal
section of the music store. i was not happy at first hearing their
new sound. im still not happy. but even thoguht they arent playing
what id like to hear, the new songs are good on their own as they are.
upon hearing that song that day i was literally holding back a major
wave of grief for him, it was really wierd i was getting chills down
my spine and everything. either their subliminal messages are really
darn effective or his songwriting ability is strong as hell and he
really pours his emotion into his singing. metallica is still badass
in a slower and more comfortable way. i still have my thrash fix with
pantera (they ARE still breaking new metal ground-every album IS
better than the last)

I have everyone of Metallica's CD's(except for Garage Days). I love

All, Enter Sandman, or Hero of the Day! They are a great band! If you
don't like the new Metallica, don't buy it! I bought the new CD the
first day it came out, and no, I didn't like as much as I liked ...And
Justice for All. But the main word in that sentence is didn't. That
means in the past. I like just as much as I like Kill Em' All or Ride
the Lightning or Master of Puppets! A "real" fan is loyal. You might
get ripped off, but that doesn't matter! 680,000 people bought "Load"
the first week! If you wanna go run to another band and dub yourself
loyal, that's okay, cause a real fan is a fan who sticks through their
band's slumps, just like in sports! So you have you're opinion, just
don't post anything if you aren't part of the fans.

I have every CD including garage days on cassette. (it seems one must
justify his level of commitment to metallica before posting on this
newsgroup). i wouldn't waste my time on this newsgroup if they weren't
a great band. i bought the CD at 00:01 on June 4. I like the fucking
CD. It's the best thing released this year, and hell I am going to buy
it. Don't tell me that just because I was dissapointed with the
commercialism not to buy it. It seems that most everyone on this
newsgroup likes to dichotomize themselves into opposing poles: load
sucks v. load rules. I characterize myself as: Load is a good
commercial album, but I don't expect this from Metallica. I expect
Metallica to put out music first, and see how it sells, and not
consider sales at a board meeting with Electra before stepping into the
studio. (If you don't think they did this, you are a little naive).
Don't give me this "real fan is loyal" crap. I don't need that shit.
A real "person" is one who continually observes and comments about the
changes that take place around him. Questions motives. Looks at
influencing factors. The world isn't all black and white to a "real
person," if I may say so, to an intellectual. I listen to Metallica
because they are the only contemporary group whose music I can stand
because it doesn't reek of Velveeta, and write lyrics with which I can
identify.
So, I naively assumed that others who were fans of Metallica's could
appreciate an objective critique, on the basis of musicality and
quality of composition juxtaposed to obvious commercial influence. If
you don't see the influence of commercialismm on their songwriting, you
are blind! They didn't switch to 5:00 radio-friendly singles because
that was the "mature" thing to do. They did it because it will get
played. Any commercial radio station is not going to play "Puppets,"
however great a song it is, because it's over eight minutes long. The
attention span of the average listener just isn't that long, and you
can't fit as many ads in an hour if you play songs that long. I work
at my college radio station. I know. I get shit everytime I try to
squeeze some old Metallica into the 5 minute block radio format. To
see the sudden marketability of Metallica is sickening. No one in
radio knows Jack Shit about music, only about popular song and
marketability.
So don't tell me I'm not a "real fan." I am first and foremost a
thinking individual, a conscious consumer, and a Metallica Fan. I love
Metallica. I love good music. I even like Load. I just feel the need
to comment on the obvious commercial influences present in the
songwriting which a thinking objective individual who has done his
homework and 'sees' cannot possibly deny. Please read my post: "The
Definition of Selling Out." I don't feel I need to make that argument
twice.

Finally! thanks for adding wonderful, well thought out contribution to
this newsgroup!
It is poetry man. THat song speaks to me! I have been driving a lot
recently, and the only metallica I have on cassete (my car hasn't been
upgraded to digital technology yet) is justice. I have been listening
to that over, and over, even though load is in my cd player at home.
(I have yet to get my lazy ass to tape it). "And Justice for all" Is
my favorite song on the album. The time changes from 6/8 to 4/4 are
gorgeous, and the lyrical content is superb.
Although, speaking of chills, I had the most amazing dream the other
night. I dreamt I was conducting a symphony orchestra through "To Live
is To Die" Fucking insane! I wish there was some way of recording
that dream. The high strings were plucking out the acoustic part, the
low strings bowing out the chord progression (1 and... 3 and 4 and 1
and... etc) , the percussion carried by the timpani mostly, and an oboe
solo for the high, melodious guitar solo. it was fucking incredible!
possibly the best dream ever, me up there on stage in a tux conducting
a symphony orchestra through one of the greatest compositions ever.
(standing ovation, of course).

last half of FBD (excluding Planet Caravan) and nearly all of the "Great
Southern Trendkill" compared to the cool riffs and vocals on Cowboys,
Vulgar, and the first few songs on FBD (5 minutes Alone, Broken)?

Maybe I'll stick my rude little nose in here. Unintelligible? People say
that about deathmetal. Pantera wasn't deathmetal, and the screaming on the
parts you mentioned does get a ltitle tiring after a while, but the Great
Southern Trendkill was awesome, as was Driven and Vulgar. All of it, except
for Planet Caravan, but as Phil said, if I don't like it, don't fucking
listen to it. And I don't.
This doesn't belong here at all. But Pantera rules. Cowboys gets old.
Psycho Holiday is extremely old. Cemetary Gates and Primal and Shredding
are never old, but the other songs are....old. I mean over-old.
Although the very beginning of Heresy still puts me in a fit of
ecstacy (well...)
