Second, What When I went to compare Lovecraft's quote that was supposed to be
something like part of the Lyrics of "The Thing That Should Not Be", I forgot
what the originally posted quote was. I know it is very similar to that of
the Lyrics of "Thing" but I forgot the original one when I saw Metallica's.
(Correction to above) First line should read When....(w/o the What) I don't
want to make a simple mistake like that poor guy a couple of weeks ago that
accidentally spelled Metallica - Mettalica or Mettallica. Give him a break
people. Just because he slipped on the keyboard doesn't mean he's any less
of a Metallica Fan. Let's stick to things that matter somewhat more than
someones typographical error.
My question for the second topic: What was the original quote.
Third, listen to the "Guitar Doodle" after "Wolf" on Binge and Purge...You'll
notice that it sounds exactly like Steve Vai...for those of you who know
who he is and what he sounds like, you'll agree. Anyways, anyone else
notice? Just wondering.

I thought it was part of a Jimi Hendrix song.
Maybe I'm wrong.

The quote from Lovecraft:
"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons, even death may die."
The quote from Metallica:
"Not dead which eternal lie
Stranger eons [sic] death may die"
I do not remember the exact story from which this quote is taken, but it is
dealing with the Cthulu Mythos. Cthulu was a super ancient being that was
trapped in "Timeless sleep" at the bottom of a sea in the south pacific. He is
deaf, dumb and blind, and totally mindless and insane... Yet, he is super
powerful (how
this came about, I don't know. Lovecraft was a bit twisted in his logic.)
ANYWAY, he is. He is not one of the Elder/Eldritch beings... he is from before
them (I think). Anyway, the song TTSNB is loosely based around the myth of
Cthulu. The bit about "Hybrid children watch the sea" is about the
servants/followers of Cthulu, half man, half amphibian creatures who practice
human sacrifice, etc. Basically, Metallica is just telling the story through
song, etc. SO. There it is, human sacrifice all around then.
THE NECRONOMICON
There are many references to the Necronomicon nowadays. It has appeared in
songs, stories, movies (Notably Evil dead II and Army of Darkness.)
There even was a "Necronomicon" that was written by some schmuck who thought
he knew about that stuff. It's all bullshit, found in cheap bookstores under
the "New Age" section, stuffed in between the legit new age
stuff. ANYWAY. When Lovecraft was in early adolescence, he was fascinated by
the stories of the "Arabian Nights." He had a very active imagination, and
made up the character of Abdul Alzhared, who he took to be himself, for his
daydreams and stories. Later, he used the character Abdul to "write" the
Necronomicon, a TOTALLY FICTIONAL thing he used in his stories to add a bit of
mystery/horror. There is catagorical proof that he just made it and Abdul
up. In the Complete Works book, and usually in the preface to many others, are
excerpts from p[ersonal letters to friends/colleagues about how he made it
up, and that is was just childhood fancy (that turned into some excellent,
excellent fiction).
The book, supposedly penned by Abdul Alzhared (aka "The Mad Arab) it was an
unholy book, full of lore, incantations, summonses, spells, and the like,
dealing with the elder ones and various other demons, gods, dieties, devils,
spirits, etc, etc, etc. It was written by the Abdul Alzhared guy during his
last days, as he was being hunted down by servants of the elder gods, who were
going to kill him gruesomely for writing down thier secrets. It's a neat Idea,
but totally false. But you can believe what you like, even though there's
proof it's false.
Anyway, there it is. Enjoy.
Carge.
